English cricket is surrounded by yet another off-the-ground controversial incident. Captain Ben Stokes and fast bowler Gus Atkinson are being investigated by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) as they are accused of violating team protocol.
Amid the latest controversy involving two national team players, former England batsman Kevin Pietersen shared a meaningful post on ‘X’ on the morning of June 9. Again, Pietersen hints at a possible move that could affect the Three Lions in the near future.
Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson under ECB investigation
According to reports, Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson went to a nightclub in the early hours of Monday morning, where “an incident took place”. The ECB released an official statement regarding the incident, where they did not elaborate on the “incident”.
He visited a nightclub after the win against New Zealand in 2016scheduled tribe Test series going on at Lord’s. The win came as a huge relief for the home nation, after their disappointing performance in the Ashes 2025-26, where they had lost 1-4 against their arch-rivals Australia.
Celebration is part of victory, so for Kevin Pietersen, if players were found celebrating only the win over New Zealand, then it is fine, but the board has kept the details under wraps.
Kevin Pietersen shares his views on the latest incident
Kevin Pietersen said, “First thought about Stokes/Atkinson – they are celebrating a Test win, so no problem! The point of contention is still unknown.”
In the next line of this post, the former cricketer has again given a big hint. This is not the first time that Pietersen has predicted a possible move in the near future.
“But, but, but, remember my tweet last week about knives being out,” Peterson said.

“Knives out” is a reference to another post shared by Kevin Pietersen on ‘X’ a few days ago. Pietersen believes that after a series of setbacks and controversies, England head coach Brendon McCullum will leave the team to join Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). If Kevin Pietersen’s prediction proves true then Brendon McCullum can become the head coach of KKR in place of Abhishek Nair.
The former cricketer wrote on May 30, “Just watched the clips of Baz McCullum’s interview followed by the comments from some UK journalists. Knives out in a big way! I’ve seen this movie before. Bad summer of results and Baz will be KKR coach next IPL season.”

Knives are running rampant!
I have seen this film before also.

One controversial moment after another for England cricket
Last year, along with Ben Stokes, England white-ball captain Harry Brook and a few other national team players were in the headlines for the wrong reasons. Harry Brook clashed with a bouncer on the eve of an ODI against New Zealand in Wellington last October.
During the Ashes, English cricketers were accused of drinking heavily in the middle of the series. Later, team director Rob Key announced an investigation into the allegations.
After the Ashes defeat, it was widely reported that Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum were not on the same page. McCullum’s job was also in danger. But somehow, after meeting with board officials, the former New Zealand opener remains in the post.
