“Rob Key has mentioned it on a few occasions, but we’ve never really got to the point where it’s: ‘Okay, what should we do here? If Rob Key rang me and said, ‘I want to talk to you properly,’ then I would definitely talk to him. I’m available to discuss”, Kevin Pietersen told The Guardian.

Pietersen said that he would happily take up the coaching role if the board asked him to join and he believed he could offer something to the team, as he has played a lot of cricket for the Three Lions. “I’ve played the game at the highest level for a long time and I feel I can offer something,” Kevin Pietersen said.

The 45-year-old, who has played 104 Tests, is especially keen to help the team in the longest format of the game. He wants to explain to the cricketers to maintain a balance between aggressive approach and situational awareness. Born in Pietermaritzburg, this player played 104 Test matches, 136 ODIs and 37 T20 matches for the England national cricket team.

Pietersen said, “I will definitely look at it in the longest format of the game and try to help these guys understand that you can play. Tactically, you have to understand the situation. I know I have all the abilities. I know I have done that. I have worn every single T-shirt. I have failed. I have won. I have done everything in the game, and I would never think about not helping England.”

Meanwhile, the former international batsman has gained experience in coaching. He worked as a mentor for Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League. This job gave him the opportunity to work closely with young talents. After retiring from international cricket, Pietersen remained involved with several broadcast and franchise leagues around the world.
