33-year-old batsman Karun Nair has been selected as the ideal number 3 batsman for India’s Test team by former wicketkeeper-batsman Deep Dasgupta.
Deep Dasgupta believes that Gautam Gambhir’s led team management should look at Karun Nair to promote number 3, a place where he has scored most of his runs in red-ball cricket.

Karun Nair fails in his return game
Nair made a mistaken comeback in the Indian Test team after eight years against the England National Cricket Team in the first match at Handingley in Leeds.
The right -handed batsman made his comeback to the Indian team behind a sensational run in domestic cricket, where he scored consecutive runs.
In addition, an informal test match against Lions of England was seen in a solid touch, slammed a blazing double ton, and booked a place in India.
He was placed at number 6 after returning to the team after 3006 days (8 years 86 days), and in the first innings, he was rejected by Ben Stokes for a 4 -ball duck.
In the second innings, he scored a significant 46 runs with KL Rahul, before falling for Chris Woakes for 54 balls. The batsman was destroyed after his horror show in the Test series opener and was expecting better outing in the upcoming matches.
I would like to see Kuldeep there – Deep Dasgupta
The second Test match between India and England will be played from 2 to 6 July in Edgbaston, Birmingham. And Deep Dasgupta wants India to play the left-handed wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav in that game. Speaking on espncricinfo, he said:
“Obviously, you don’t want to make much changes after the first game. But, this is a very young side, so you are combined. Birmingham is usually a batting -suited site.
“I would like to see Kuldeep there. The advantage of being the top five between runs is that you are not very concerned about your contribution with bat.”

Deep Dasgupta further said that Karun Nair was no. He said:
“Karun Nair has received most of his runs in first -class cricket and all at number 3. Also, he has batted against a Lions for India at number 3. So you may want to see Karun Nair at number 3. [Reddy] At number 6, which if necessary, can give you some overs of the seam-up. ,
Former India wicketkeeper-batsman also admitted to leave Sai Sudarson, who returned with a score of 0 and 30, while batting at number 3 at his beginning, there would be a tough call, but the team management needs to have an honest conversation with him. He said:
“Sai, I will chat with him and say, it is not a reflection of what happened in the first test, but a combination. Therefore, this conversation becomes very important – how you put it.”
