Sobers, widely regarded as the greatest all-rounder in the history of the game, died of natural causes at his home in Barbados on Friday morning. Paying an emotional tribute to late Sir Gary Sobers, Kapil Dev said the West Indian, who was also a footballer, golfer and basketball player for Barbados, was not only one of the greatest all-rounders but also the player who changed the way cricket was played.
The former Indian captain stressed that Sobers’ impact on the game was much bigger than records and statistics and said that no other all-rounder could match his incredible skills with the bat, ball-speed, spin and wrist spin – and in the field.
Kapil said that world cricket has lost a true icon whose achievements and talent will never be forgotten. The 1983 World Cup winner further revealed that as a cricketer, he always respected Sobers and considered him one of the biggest inspirations in the history of the game.

IANS quoted Kapil Dev as saying, “He is one of the finest cricketers born in this world. He had a talent unlike any other. Being a cricketer, I admire him more than any other cricketer in this world… He gave us immense pleasure with his talent and what he showed on the field.”
The legendary cricketer said, “He is one of the finest cricketers ever born in this world. He had a different talent than others. And being a cricketer, I admire him more than any other cricketer in this world. One of the finest cricketers, and he has given us so much joy with his talent. We just want to say that may his soul rest in peace. My dear, you are the best player ever born.”

Meanwhile, Kapil Dev also talked about India head coach Gautam Gambhir, whose future seems uncertain recently. However, the former Indian captain refused to fuel the discussion and supported Gambhir as the coach and expressed hope that he will continue to perform well with the team in the future.
Kapil said that any decision regarding Gambhir’s future depends on the BCCI and the selection committee. He signed off by saying, “It’s up to the cricket board and the committee to decide what to do. I think they’ve done a very good job, and I wish them all the best…”
