Kapil Dev lauds Yuvraj Singh’s contribution to Indian cricket
Kapil Dev says that Yuvraj did not need to apologize after his father’s controversial remarks. Praising Yuvraj Singh, the former captain mentioned that Yuvraj was a brilliant cricketer in his time, who made the game more popular, which is more valuable than records or statistics.
Kapil said in the podcast, “No, there is no need to apologize. He is a great cricketer. What a brilliant player he was. And the way he served the country. I think he made the game more popular. The records keep coming back. But the way he played cricket, people loved him. What a cricketer he was.”
Kapil Dev issued an open statement on Yograj Singh!
Yograj Singh, in his viral statement, claimed that he is no longer friends with Kapil because of some issues he had mentioned in an interview. However, what actually happened between them was unclear.
In response to this, the veteran captain says that he does not know why Yograj issues such statements, but he still considers him his friend. Kapil further said that he likes to meet happy people and not those who live with bitterness in life.
“I don’t know what he means. I’m still a friend. I don’t like to meet bitter people in life. I like to meet happy people. There’s a lot of things that go on in life. And if you’re a bitter person, people aren’t going to love you. And their son has done great,” he says in the same podcast session.
What did Yograj Singh say to Kapil Dev?
In January last year, Yuvraj Singh’s father Yograj Singh had said that he had gone to his friend’s house with a pistol in his pocket and used abusive words to teach Kapil Dev a lesson.
Yograj Singh said, “My wife (Yuvi’s mother) wanted me to question Kapil. I told her I would teach this bloody man a lesson. I took out my pistol and went to Kapil’s house in Sector 9. He came out with his mother. I abused him dozens of times. I told him, ‘I have lost a friend because of you and for what you have done, you will have to pay the price for it.’
“I told him, ‘I want to shoot you in the head, but I’m not going to do that because you’ve got a very holy mother standing here.’ I said to Shabnam, ‘Let’s go.’ That was the moment when I decided that I would not play cricket; Yuvi will play,” he said.
