Kane Williamson has announced his retirement from international cricket with immediate effect, bringing an end to New Zealand’s 16-year-long prestigious career. The veteran batsman established himself as one of the most accomplished cricketers of his generation through his consistency, leadership and sportsmanship.
Williamson will not take any further part in New Zealand’s ongoing Test series against England, where they lost the first Test at Lord’s. New Zealand Cricket is expected to name a replacement for the remaining matches of the tour, while tributes to the former captain’s outstanding international career continue.

Kane Williamson has talked about his decision to retire from international cricket, saying that he feels this is the right time to retire. The former New Zealand captain said that he gave everything to the team throughout his career and wanted to leave the game on his own terms.
“I’ve thought about it for some time, but over the last few days it’s become clear that now is the right time. I’ve always felt a strong desire and hunger for international cricket, and I’m proud to know that I’ve given my all in every match I’ve played for New Zealand.”
“It wouldn’t be right to continue anything less and I feel fortunate to step down on my own terms. I’m feeling optimistic about where this group is going. There’s a huge amount of talent, and a real desire to do something special with this New Zealand team.
“This is a team I love, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have been a part of it for so long. It will remain dear to my heart.”
