Jos Buttler overtakes MS Dhoni, creates historic T20I record against India in Southampton

Veteran batsman Jos Buttler on Saturday created history by becoming the wicketkeeper who has hit the most number of sixes in international cricket, surpassing former India captain MS Dhoni. The England star achieved the feat during the fifth and final T20I against India at the Rose Bowl in Southampton on Saturday, June 11.

Butler played a brilliant inning of 131 runs in 64 balls with the help of 12 fours and eight sixes, helping England score a huge score of 257/5 in 20 overs. After this, the host team won the series 4-0 with a victory of 56 runs. The win also marked England’s first bilateral T20I series win over the Men in Blue.

Jos Buttler overtakes MS Dhoni for most international sixes hit by a wicketkeeper

Jos Buttler needed just two sixes in the fifth T20I in Southampton to break MS Dhoni’s long-standing record of 359 international sixes by a wicketkeeper. He reached the milestone during the powerplay and finished the innings with eight sixes, taking his career tally to 366.

Buttler tops the list of wicketkeepers who have hit most international sixes. Dhoni is second with 359, followed by Quinton de Kock with 300. Adam Gilchrist is in fourth place with 259, while Brendon McCullum is in fifth place with 208.

Jos Buttler records highest individual T20I score against India

Jos Buttler scored his second T20I century and recorded the highest individual score against India in T20I history. The England captain scored a brilliant 131 runs in 64 balls and broke the record that had been standing for almost a decade.

Buttler surpassed West Indies opener Evin Lewis’s unbeaten inning of 125 for the West Indies in Kingston in 2017. Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson played an unbeaten inning of 124 runs against India in Sydney in 2016.

England completes historic 4-0 series win over India

Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bowl first. India got off to a great start when Prasidh Krishna dismissed Phil Salt in the second over. However, England soon regained control through Jos Buttler and Harry Brook, who dominated the Indian bowling attack.

Buttler and Brook added a record 233 runs for the second wicket in just 102 balls, the highest partnership for any wicket in men’s T20I history. Buttler produced a career-best performance, while Brook remained unbeaten on 95 from 45 balls, helping England post 257/3. Highest T20I score against India.

Buttler also scored his second T20 century and recorded the highest individual score against India in this format. Shivam Dubey was India’s most successful bowler with two wickets.

Chasing 258, India never took the target seriously despite fighting innings from Ishan Kishan and Tilak Verma. Kishan scored 56 runs in 35 balls, while Tilak scored 53 runs in 25 balls. Sam Curran was brilliant with the ball, taking three wickets as England restricted India to 201/8 and won by 56 runs.
