Former England captain and Gujarat Titans (GT) batsman Jos Buttler has been involved in a heated debate over young sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi and fast bowler Kyle Jamieson in IPL 2026.
Butler defended Kyle Jamieson in this controversy and said that the reaction was natural considering the dangerous way Vaibhav Suryavanshi is playing in the current IPL 2026.

The incident happened recently in the IPL 2026 match between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Delhi Capitals (DC), where Jamieson dismissed Vaibhav Suryavanshi for just 4 runs and celebrated very aggressively in front of him. The moment sparked massive debate and the New Zealand pacer later received a demerit point for breaking IPL rules.

Now, reacting to the incident, Jos Buttler feels that the whole conversation is mainly because Vaibhav Suryavanshi is only 15 years old. He told that due to age this incident has started looking big, but the reality is that this young player is batting with full aggression against every bowler this season, due to which even the top bowlers are feeling the pressure against him.

The Englishman noted that when a batsman keeps attacking like this, bowlers also get emotional when they finally get the breakthrough, and that is why Jamieson’s reaction looked strong, but it came from the pressure that Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been building in the tournament. He also said that such moments are part of the game and emotions come out naturally in big competitions like IPL.
Buttler defends Kyle Jamieson’s aggressive celebration
The Indian Express quoted Jos Buttler as saying, “I don’t know if it’s a big news or not. It’s not something I’ve seen very often. I’ve seen him get out, and, you know, I think the fact that he’s 15 years old is probably the thing that makes it so big, isn’t it?”
The GT batsman further explained, “But I would say that Vaibhav Suryavanshi is not showing any remorse towards any bowler for the fact that he is only 15. It is not that he is only hitting twos and fours. He is thrashing bowlers in row Z. So, the excitement when you get him out, I think, is justified to be honest. He is playing so well, and he is so destructive.”
Buttler also felt that the New Zealand bowler might later find the moment funny, as his most emotional celebration was against a teenage player. He added, “I’m sure Kyle Jamieson is probably having a little laugh when he’s back in his room thinking, ‘One of the most excited and emotional guys I’ve ever been in and in the batsman’s face for a 15-year-old.’

Emotional celebrations are normal in IPL: Butler
The Englishman added, “But, you know, I think that’s the only drawback, isn’t it? Apart from that, he’s been one of the stars of the tournament. He’s been one of the most destructive players, and, as I said, he’s showing no remorse towards the bowlers.”
The England wicketkeeper also said that emotional celebrations are a natural part of modern cricket, especially in a high-pressure league like the IPL. Butler signed off by saying, “So, fair play to him, and I’m sure you’re in the camp where we like to see emotion in sports, right? You want to see a little joy.”
“Vaibhav is playing men’s cricket as if he is one of the best players in the tournament. So, I think the fact that he is only 15 is the point of discussion. Otherwise, it would be a normal kind of celebration for a bowler.”
