Chennai Super Kings (CSK) got off to a dreadful start in the first match of the ongoing IPL 2026 season. They consistently lost top-order batsmen inside the power play. After losing the wicket of Sanju Samson, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad also followed suit. Gaikwad lost his wicket after scoring only 6 runs in 11 balls.
CSK found themselves in a slum soon after the start of the match at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati. England’s star fast bowler Joffra Archer bowled Ruturaj Gaikwad. The fast bowler uprooted the middle stump of the batsman.

On the last ball of the third over of the first innings, Archer made a full and straight delivery on the line of the stumps, which Ruturaj Gaikwad failed to connect. The right-handed batsman tried to play a big innings, but missed the ball massively and broke the middle-stump.
