India’s batting was a nightmare at Trent Bridge as England defeated them by a huge margin of 125 runs in the third T20I on July 7. After embarrassing India, England’s star fast bowler Jofra Archer has taken a sharp dig at the BCCI as he highlighted the difference between the bowling in England and the IPL.
Archer clarified that fast bowlers find it easier to bowl in England than bowling in India. The bowler stressed that English conditions are more natural for fast bowlers, but IPL matches are played on flat batting pitches with short boundaries, where even a small mistake can lead to a six. Meanwhile, Jofra Archer opened up on his rivalry with Vaibhav Suryavanshi.
England’s pace attack destroyed India
England’s bowling attack completely exposed India’s batting. Chasing 202, the Men in Blue failed to show any fight and were bowled out for 76 runs in just 11.4 overs. This was India’s biggest defeat by runs in T20I cricket history and England took a 2–0 lead in the five-match T20I series.
Archer played an important role in England’s big victory over India. This fast bowler took three wickets and kept India under pressure from the beginning with his pace and bounce. On the other hand, Josh Tongue made things worse for India by breaking the backbone of the batting order and taking four wickets at Trent Bridge.
Jofra Archer takes a dig at IPL after India’s record defeat
After the match, Jofra Archer was happy to return to “normal” after bowling on “easy wickets and short boundaries” during the IPL. The fast bowler said that he does not need to make too many changes while bowling in England, as the conditions allow him to bowl at good lengths.
But in IPL, bowlers have to think more because the wickets are very good for batting and the boundaries are very small, as the former England fast bowler pointed out.
Jofra Archer said in the post-match conference, “I think everything becomes normal here. You try to bowl the ball straight on a good length. Whereas there, because the wickets are so easy and the boundaries are so short, you have to be really special. Here, I think your margin of error is a little bit bigger.”
‘200 is not safe in IPL’: Jofra Archer
Archer also feels that England’s score of 201 will always be difficult to chase on the Trent Bridge pitch. He said things are very different from the IPL, where even a score above 200 is sometimes not enough to win.
He further added, “In the IPL, sometimes a score of 200 is not safe. With a score of 200 on that wicket, I don’t want to say that we were confident, but I thought it would take a really special innings to achieve it. I am glad that everyone contributed to it.
Everyone who bowled today got wickets, so it was a complete bowling performance. Indian batsmen have found the conditions in the UK much more challenging.
Jofra Archer reveals the real reason behind India’s batting collapse
Archer stressed that the England bowlers bowled with good discipline and followed their plans well and that is why they managed to trouble the Indian batsmen, not just because of the extra pace.
He went on to say, “No, not really. I thought we both bowled very well in Manchester. Neither of us got wickets to show for it there, so we’re glad we got some today. To be honest, I don’t think it was that fast. It could have been a bit faster, but there was a strong wind, so to be honest, I didn’t really feel it was out of hand.”
