The trend of missed catches continues in the current season of the Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026). In the second innings between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals (DC vs RR) at Arun Jaitley Stadium, RR’s rising player Yash Punja dropped the regulation catch of KL Rahul in the very first over.
Jofra Archer could have dismissed the Delhi Capitals opener for a duck, but Punja missed an easy chance. He was on the line of the ball, but still missed. Jofra Archer simply turned back and went back to his mark.
Yash Punja dropped an easy catch of DC’s in-form batsman KL Rahul.
KL Rahul is one of the in-form batsmen in the match, so the dropped catch could prove to be one of the main talking points as the match progresses. On the second ball of the first over of the second innings, the ball from Rajasthan Royals fast bowler Jofra Archer hit the right-handed batsman’s pad. Rahul tried to dodge the short fine leg fielder, but failed to connect with the ball.
After making the connection, the ball went straight towards Yash Punja. The ball was at waist height of the tall fielder. He put both his hands on his left side but could not catch the ball. DC missed a golden opportunity, KL Rahul was out after stealing a single.
After losing the toss, the foreign team of the match Rajasthan Royals made a competitive score of 193 runs at the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. They could have got more, but in the middle stage of the innings, Delhi Capitals bowlers came back strongly and restricted RR to within 200 runs.
DC made a comeback in the first innings on the strength of its bowlers.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi played his natural game as usual and hit the bowlers all over the ground. Currently, he holds the record for hitting most sixes in a single season of IPL. RR dominated in a crucial phase of the innings as Dhruv Jurel and RR captain Riyan Parag scored half-centuries.
While Vaibhav was out after scoring 46 runs, Dhruv and Ryan scored 53 and 51 runs respectively. With the ball, DC’s star pacer Mitchell Marsh took 4 wickets and Lungi Ngidi and Madhav Tiwary took two wickets each.
Madhav Tiwary mentions KL Rahul for his brilliant bowling against Rajasthan Royals
Madhav performed brilliantly with the ball tonight and took 2 wickets for 27 runs in his 4 over spell.
“I was looking to put myself in high-pressure situations in the nets. So, bowling to Miller and bowling to Ashutosh Sharma and KL Rahul helped me. I was just trying to figure out how I bowl against these batsmen, which will help me in this tournament,” the uncapped Indian fast bowler said during the innings break.
