J&K CM insults Ranji Trophy champions with IPL base-price reward

A dream come true moment for Jammu and Kashmir. On 28 February, the North Indian team created an unforgettable moment by defeating heavyweight Karnataka. The team players and staff were immersed in joy at the DR Bendre Cricket Stadium in Hubli.

To make the moment grander, the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir announced a huge prize money for the state’s Ranji Trophy 2025-26 winning team. Omar Abdullah announced a cash reward of Rs 2 crore for the victory of Jammu and Kashmir Ranji team.

In the summit clash, all the cricketers from Jammu and Kashmir played their hearts out to defeat the star-studded Karnataka cricket team which featured stars like KL Rahul, Karun Nair, Prasidh Krishna and Devdutt Padikkal. Jammu and Kashmir reached the top of the run mountain thanks to centuries from Shubham Pundir, Qamran Iqbal and Sahil Lottra and several half-centuries in the first innings. Fast bowler Auqib Nabi, who made the campaign memorable with his excellent bowling, took 5 more wickets in the finale.

On this occasion, star personalities of Indian cricket extended their support to the winning team and wished them good luck for the coming days. Former India cricketer Dinesh Karthik wrote on his social media account ‘X’, “Jammu and Kashmir won the title of Ranji Trophy champions for the first time. A memorable moment for the state and domestic cricket!! Well done, team, really deserve it.”

Mohammad Kaif congratulated Jammu and Kashmir on the historic moment

Mohammad Kaif said that, due to his stupendous success, more cricketers from Jammu and Kashmir will make their mark in the future.

Kaif wrote on his ‘x’ post, “Historic day for Jammu and Kashmir cricket. Having led UP to its first Ranji Trophy title, I know what this moment means to the players and the state. Now more players from Jammu and Kashmir will believe that they too can do the same.”

Srivatsa Goswami said, good for Indian cricket

Former Bengal keeper-batsman Shrivatsa Goswami said, Jammu and Kashmir winning the Ranji Trophy – it is a good sign for Indian cricket. He hopes that after this moment, Indian cricket will not be limited to just a few big names.

Goswami said, “Jammu & Kashmir wins #RanjiTrophy2026. Congratulations to the players and support staff. A huge moment for them and for India too. The heartbeat of Indian cricket is no longer limited to the traditional giants who dominate domestic cricket. Jammu and Kashmir deserves it.”
