J&K beats Delhi, registers first win against them in Ranji Trophy history

The Jammu and Kashmir team is in high spirits and has recently shocked many legendary teams of Indian domestic cricket. They registered their second win in this Ranji Trophy for the first time in the 65-year history of domestic cricket with a win over Delhi.

Ranji Trophy 2025 is witnessing many surprising twists, with many cricketers showing their masterclass and asking questions to the national selectors. Ishan Kishan, Prithvi Shaw, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Mohammed Shami and Karun Nair have surprised with their strength in the season.

But the team that has grabbed all the attention as a unit is the team from the northernmost province, Jammu and Kashmir. The underdogs are currently second in their group in the Ranji Trophy Elite League.

Jammu and Kashmir registers first Ranji Trophy win against Delhi

Jammu and Kashmir’s domestic cricket team has surprised the Delhi State team on its own home ground at Arun Jaitley Stadium by continuously taking lead. They registered their first win against the opposition team, that too on Delhi’s home ground.

To everyone’s further surprise, the win seemed completely one-sided, as Delhi never once seemed to get back into the game. Placed among strong opponents in Group D along with Mumbai, Hyderabad, Rajasthan, Delhi and Himachal Pradesh, they are currently placed second on the points table after 2 wins, one loss and one draw.

Once again, the much-hyped Auqib Nabi was named player of the match for taking 5 wickets in the first innings, laying the foundation for J&K’s dominance over the Delhi team.

A team effort with captain Paras Dogra leading from the front

In the first innings, Delhi’s batsmen struggled against Nabi initially as the top order collapsed. Delhi’s middle-order put up some resistance, with the captain once again leading from the front with Ayush Doseja and Sumit Mathur. Delhi were all out for just 211 runs after Nabi came back to clean up the lower order.

Jammu and Kashmir’s innings saw stiff resistance from their captain Paras Dogra, who scored 106 runs and was supported by Abdul Samad’s 85 runs and wicketkeeper Kanhaiya Wadhawan’s 47 runs. After taking a lead of 99 runs, they were looking in good form.

In return, Delhi scored 277 runs in their second innings, with Ayush Badoni top-scoring with 72 and Doeja supporting his innings with 62 runs. Young Vanshanj Sharma this time surprised the home team by taking 6 wickets, which made his rapidly increasing innings clear.

Qamran Iqbal helped J&K chase down the target of 179 runs easily as he played a career-best inning of 133 runs off just 147 balls. They won over Delhi by 7 wickets in Delhi.

Captain Ayush Badoni was the best player for Delhi.

Delhi’s batsmen failed to deliver the promising performance, with their captain Ayush Badoni being the only in-form batsman with Ayush Doseja scoring half-centuries in both the innings. Badoni scored his maiden Duleep Trophy double century earlier this season and played some promising innings for India A against Australia A and South Africa A.

Badoni top scored for Delhi in the match with 136 runs followed by Ayush Doseja who scored 127 runs in both the innings. Simarjeet Singh and Vansaj Sharma were the leading wicket-takers for their respective teams, while Qamran Iqbal scored 147 runs for Jammu and Kashmir.
