During the second ODI match between India and New Zealand, New Zealand player Jayden Lennox got injured while trying to stop Virat Kohli’s powerful shot. The match is going on at Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot on Wednesday, January 14, in which India lost the toss and were asked to bat first.

New Zealand captain Michael Bracewell won the toss and decided to bowl first. Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma scored only 10 runs in the first five overs. The opening pair made a partnership of 70 runs in 74 balls before Rohit was out after scoring 24 runs in 38 balls. After Rohit’s dismissal, Kohli came to the crease.

During the second ODI, Jaden Lennox got injured while fielding a shot by Virat Kohli. This incident happened on the fifth ball of the 18th over.

Kohli played a powerful drive down the left and Lennox dived to stop the ball. He was hit on his left palm while sliding on the side pitch and was seen bleeding, forcing him to leave the field for medical treatment. Lennox impressed on his international debut, conceding just 18 runs from five overs.

Who is Jayden Lennox? New Zealand’s debut in Rajkot

Jaden Lennox is making his ODI debut during the match against India. Captain Michael Bracewell brought him into the attack in the 10th over and Lennox made an immediate impact, conceding just two runs with a wide in his first over.

He played 54 List A matches, took 69 wickets and scored 224 runs in 28 innings. After his name appeared in New Zealand’s playing eleven, attention quickly shifted away from the field.

He studied Science and Technology, Environmental Science and Geography at Massey University. Away from cricket, he worked as a greenkeeper at Palmerston Golf Course in Australia from 2018 to 2019.

He subsequently took up roles outside the sport, including jobs as field technician at Aqualink Research Ltd, assembly technician at Hustler Equipment from 2020 to 2023, and part-time laboratory technician at ARL between April and September 2024.

Jayden Lennox’s record as a professional cricketer

Jayden Lennox has played 21 first-class, 54 List A and 45 T20 matches, taking 48, 69 and 60 wickets respectively. With the bat, he has scored 390 runs in first-class cricket, 224 runs in List A and 68 runs in T20.

Lennox made his professional debut in November 2019 and appeared in over 50 List A matches, with bowling figures of 4/52. He has also played a leadership role, captaining the Central Stags in the Ford Trophy and leading the team in the Super Smash T20 competition.

The 31-year-old earned his place in the senior setup in 2025 after strong performances for New Zealand A during the tours of Bangladesh and South Africa helped open the door to international selection.
