Can an interim committee or a new officer take charge?

The government is also now considering appointing an interim committee or an authorized officer to take charge of the SLC. A special recovery plan has already been prepared to revive Sri Lankan cricket and bring the team back to winning ways.

Implementation of some parts of this plan has also started. The Sports Minister has made it clear that the government will personally monitor these reforms. He believes that the future of his sport is too important to be left in uncertain hands.

Now, his main focus is to rebuild the system, strengthen the administration and lead the game back to success. However, the Sports Minister has insisted that there is no reason to ban SLC; Rather, they simply want the game to run smoothly while major structural changes occur.

Major changes planned to rebuild Sri Lankan cricket

Well, the minister said that talks are still going on about whether Sri Lanka Cricket will be run by an interim committee or by a special authorized officer, and the final decision will be taken soon.

Sri Lanka’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign

Notably, it came to a disappointing end to Sri Lanka’s campaign at the T20 World Cup 2026 after being eliminated at the Super 8 stage. The co-hosts started well in the group stage, winning three out of four matches, but injuries to key players Wanindu Hasaranga and Mathisha Pathirana severely hampered the team in the next round.

In the Super 8 stage, Sri Lanka lost all three matches against England, Pakistan and New Zealand and they failed to make the semi-finals.
