Rod Tucker created history: Test cricket is back, as well as the England national cricket team, as the Three Lions are currently taking on the New Zealand national cricket team at the iconic Lord’s Stadium in London. The home of cricket hosts its 150th Test match and becomes the first stadium in the world to achieve this feat on the opening day of the first Test match.

Aside from the stadium feat, the match also marked another milestone, as Australian umpire Rod Tucker became the fourth umpire in the history of the game to officiate in 100 Test matches. He achieved the milestone after being present during the opening Test of the ICC World Test Championship 25-27 series between England and New Zealand at Lord’s.

Rod is a very respected umpire – Jay Shah on Rod Tucker

International Cricket Council (ICC) Secretary, Mr Jay Shah felicitated the experienced umpire before the game and he was also presented with a crystal trophy by former ICC Test umpire Ian Gould before the start of the game. Jay Shah congratulated the Australian official before the game and thanked him for the professionalism and respect he has earned during his career.

“Rod is a highly respected umpire whose consistency and professionalism has earned him the respect of peers, players and fans around the world. Always a good performer and capable of ensuring the smooth running of games under pressure, he has been one of the best umpires of his era.

“This milestone of 100 Tests really shows how much confidence cricket administrators have had in him over the years, and his experience is invaluable. He is a source of inspiration for other umpires around the world, and others reach out to him for guidance.

“On behalf of the ICC, I would like to heartily congratulate Rod on this incredible achievement and thank him for his extraordinary dedication to the game.”

I’m looking forward to moving forward – Rod Tucker

Rod Tucker shares his insights after being honored to umpire his 100th game. “Cricket has always been my passion, and I feel fortunate to have had such a long career as an international umpire. Standing in my 100th Test is a dream come true, and I look back on this journey with deep affection and gratitude.

“I would like to sincerely thank the ICC and Cricket Australia for their unwavering support over the years. I am also grateful to the Cricket Umpires and Scorers Association of New South Wales for their encouragement during my early career.

“Special thanks to my colleagues in the elite panel and my family for their continued support. I could not have reached this milestone without them. I look forward to continuing this rewarding journey with enthusiasm in the years to come.”

Apart from Rod Tucker, who else has umpired in 100 test matches?

The 61-year-old umpire has been a part of many prestigious matches ranging from the 2016 T20 World Cup final and has also officiated in several ICC global tournaments, including the Men’s Cricket World Cup in 2011, 2015, 2019 and 2023, the Men’s Champions Trophy in 2013 (including the final between India and England), 2017 and 2025.

Apart from Rod Tucker, only three umpires have had the honor of standing as an umpire in 100 Test matches: Pakistan’s Aleem Dar (145), West Indies’ legendary umpire Steve Buckner (128), and South Africa’s Rudy Koertzen (108). But umpiring his 100th game at the iconic Lord’s ground will be a surreal moment for the Australian.
