Jay Shah-led ICC calls emergency meeting to end Pakistan cricket forever amid T20 World Cup chaos

Tension has increased as doubt looms over the India vs Pakistan match for the 2026 T20 World Cup. Pakistan has been hinted to participate in the upcoming major events in India and Sri Lanka. However, their national government and cricket board are on the same path to boycott the India vs Pakistan match. This match is going to take place on 15th February.

Meanwhile, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is set to hold a high-level emergency meeting within the next 48 hours to discuss the Pakistan government’s decision to bar players in green from playing against India. According to NDTV report, this is going to be a meeting that can significantly change the face of world cricket. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) could potentially face disbarment and sanctions depending on the result.

ICC and PCB are not on the same path

Tension has arisen between the PCB and the ICC after Bangladesh were pulled out of the T20 World Cup as the governing body rejected their request to shift the matches from India to Sri Lanka citing security reasons. The Pakistan government delayed announcing its participation in the World Cup and finally gave the green signal on Sunday. However, his selected participation has not gone down well with the leading cricket body.

The global cricket body issued a statement on the matter, “While the ICC respects the role of governments in matters of national policy, this decision is not in the interests of the global game or the welfare of fans around the world, including millions in Pakistan. The ICC hopes the PCB will consider the significant and long-term implications for cricket in its country as it is likely to impact the global cricket ecosystem, of which it is a member and beneficiary.

“The ICC’s priority is the successful conduct of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which should also be the responsibility of all its members, including the PCB. It hopes that the PCB will find a mutually acceptable solution that protects the interests of all stakeholders.”

Will there be ban on Pakistan?

There was no response to this and that is why the meeting was suddenly announced. According to PTI report, Pakistan may face a number of sanctions, ranging from financial damages to fines to a ban on issuing No Objection Certificates (NOC) for foreign players participating in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

From the docking of World Test Championship (WTC) points, the impact on rankings and the refusal of top cricket playing nations to tour Pakistan for bilateral series. If there is a serious situation, the entire T20 World Cup can be suspended. All the following controversies related to the Markee encounter will be discussed in the upcoming meeting.
