Oman captain Jatinder Singh warns Australia before T20 World Cup match: Australia will face Oman in the final group stage game of the 2026 T20 World Cup on Friday. Australia are out of the competition after Zimbabwe’s match against Ireland was washed out due to rain. They lost their two matches in the competition against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka. Oman are also last in Group B after losing their three games.
It will be a dead rubber match for both the countries as already 8 teams have qualified for the next stage. Before the match, Oman captain Jatinder Singh made a comment about Australia during the pre-match press conference. He believes that his team sees the last match of this tournament as an opportunity to upset the inexperienced Australia team.
Oman can trouble Australia
Asked if there was a possibility of Oman defeating Australia in the final game, he said, “100 per cent it is a chance,” said Jatinder Singh. “And our boys are looking forward to it. Because T20 is a game of momentum and moments, and if you play those moments right, you can do anything on that particular day.”
“Australia are not performing well at the moment…this is the best time to crush them. The boys are really positive. They are looking forward to the match against Australia to make a mark.”
Australia came into the tournament with an inexperienced bowling attack, with Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins ruled out with separate injuries. Team captain Mitchell Marsh also could not play in the first few matches due to a waist injury. Overall, it was a disastrous tournament for the Australian team.
‘If we have franchise cricket in the country,’ – Jatinder Singh
Oman captain Jatinder Singh was asked how to make the team more competitive in the long term. Jatinder Singh feels that playing franchise cricket will be an option for the country’s players. However, Oman did not have any significant cricket calendar in 2025, playing only 15 T20Is and eight ODIs.
“Well, if I had to summarize [how Oman can improve]“That will happen when we have franchise cricket in our country or our people get a chance to play franchise cricket somewhere else,” Jatinder said. “I think we can fill that gap and he can bring a huge amount of experience to our national team.
Allies want to play more competitive cricket
Jatinder Singh concluded, “But if we don’t get to play competitive cricket while other teams get to play competitive cricket, then we will need to fill that gap. There are instances where we are inviting teams to come and play in Oman. The response has been really delayed, or we have not got any response. So I think if we have franchise cricket, it will really fill the gap.”
The Allies have played well in this edition of the competition, giving the bigger nations a tough time and almost leading to an upset in the competition. Some players have been urged to play more games against full member teams to improve their skills and temperament against bigger teams.
