Jasprit Bumrah’s recent visit to BCCI’s Center of Excellence (CoE) created a fresh injury scare among Mumbai Indians (MI) ahead of the IPL 2026 season. A few days before the opening match of the league, a fresh report emerged regarding the fast bowler’s arrival at the COE in Bengaluru.

According to a recently published media report, the leading fast bowler of Team India and MI went to the Center of Excellence due to workload management due to the busy schedule he was going through in the last quarter.

As the undisputed leader of the Indian bowling line-up, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) always tries to protect the talent so that it can perform in important competitions.

Jasprit Bumrah will also play an important role in ODI World Cup 2027

Next year, Team India will play the ICC ODI World Cup, where Jasprit Bumrah will have to play an important role. The apparent number of matches may blow the board’s plans. Therefore, it is better to take precautionary measures beforehand.

Ahead of his participation in IPL 2026, the board’s medical advisory panel had scheduled strength and conditioning tests for the bowler to keep him ready for India’s upcoming assignment against England. The Men in Blue will play five T20Is and three ODIs against the Three Lions in July.

Jasprit Bumrah has a history of back injury for which he had undergone surgery in 2025. Since then, BCCI has been doing as much as possible to protect its assets by managing its workload. For non-essential series, the management often drops him from the team so that he can keep himself fresh for the upcoming endeavours.

Why did this legendary fast bowler go to the Center of Excellence?

According to reports, Jasprit Bumrah is mainly in the COE to work on strength and conditioning. He is expected to join the Mumbai Indians camp soon, ahead of their first IPL 2026 match, which will be against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on March 29 at the Wankhede Stadium.

According to ESPNcricinfo, “Bumrah is in the CoE primarily to work on strength and conditioning. It is understood that Bumrah’s plan to work in the CoE has been devised by the BCCI medical team with a focus on India’s white-ball tour of England in July, where he will play five T20Is and three ODIs.”

This fast bowler’s last international and IPL season was excellent.

The Mumbai-born player played a key role in India’s success story in the recently concluded 2026 T20 World Cup. In the tournament, the seamer finished the campaign as the joint-highest wicket-taker with 14 wickets. In the final, he took 4 wickets against New Zealand to lead India to a historic victory.

Last season for Mumbai Indians, the fast bowler took 18 wickets in 12 matches at an economy rate of 6.67. Overall, Jasprit Bumrah’s total wicket-taking tally for the Mumbai-based franchise stands at 186 wickets in 148 matches. As of now, he is the second highest wicket taker for MI after Sri Lankan great Lasith Malinga.
