A major controversy involving Jasprit Bumrah broke out during the first match of the five-match T20I series between the India national cricket team and the South Africa national cricket team.

The opening match of the T20I series was hosted at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, and leading fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah reached the milestone of 100 T20I wickets in the match.

Jasprit Bumrah achieved a historic feat

Ahead of the first T20I match against the Proteas, Jasprit Bumrah was on 99 wickets in the T20I format and needed just one wicket to reach his century.

He managed to do so in the 11th over when he got the wicket of Dewald Brevis. On the second ball of the over, Jasprit Bumrah bowled a sharp length ball to Brevis, who was late on the pull shot and Suryakumar Yadav took the dolly at extra cover and spooned it straight.

As Brewis was going back, the umpires stopped him as the third umpire was checking for a no-ball. After a few seconds, the TV umpire declared it a valid delivery and the Proteas batsman was asked to leave.

However, replays revealed a different story. It seemed that Bumrah’s front foot was not behind the popping crease and former cricketer Robin Uthappa, who was on-air, claimed that it was a no-ball.

Meanwhile, Bumrah took his 101st wicket in T20I cricket by dismissing Keshav Maharaj at the score of 0 on the fifth ball of the 11th over.
