The BCCI and the team management are now handling India’s fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah very carefully as the preparations for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2027 begin.
The Indian think tank no longer wants to put extra stress on Bumrah’s body and hence his matches are expected to be managed smartly in the next few months.
Bumrah has been rested for the upcoming one-off Test and three-match ODI series against Afghanistan as part of workload management following a busy schedule.
BCCI repeats T20 World Cup formula to keep Jasprit Bumrah fresh for big events
Now, a BCCI source quoted by Cricblogger has revealed that Jasprit Bumrah is likely to return during India’s ODI series against England. The plan is to give the fast bowler a proper rest of one and a half month so that he remains completely fresh for India’s preparations for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2027.

There is also a possibility that Bumrah may get more rest if the medical team feels that his body needs additional time for recovery. The support staff does not want to take any risks with injuries, especially as fast bowlers often face fitness problems after a long season.
The selection committee had adopted a similar workload-management approach ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup at home. At that time, Bumrah had played less ODI matches than T20Is.
However, the Indian fast bowlers will still be available for the major Test series against strong teams like Australian national cricket team, English cricket team, New Zealand national cricket team and South African national cricket team.
Questions raised on continued participation of Jasprit Bumrah in IPL 2026
Meanwhile, many are not happy with Bumrah’s continued involvement with Mumbai Indians in the ongoing IPL 2026 even after the team is out of the playoff race. A source said, “What is the point of giving Bumrah more IPL matches?”
Bumrah is one of the most dangerous bowlers in the world, but things have not gone his way in the ongoing IPL 2026. In 13 matches, the star bowler has been able to take only four wickets.
It has been more than two years since Jasprit Bumrah last played an ODI for India. His last ODI match came against Australia in the 2023 ODI World Cup final, where India lost by six wickets. After that, Bumrah continued playing Test and T20I cricket.

After a long battle in IPL, Jasprit Bumrah finally dismissed Manish Pandey.
Manish Pandey recently played a brilliant inning for Kolkata Knight Riders against Mumbai Indians at the Eden Gardens in IPL 2026. Chasing 148, KKR were under pressure after losing three wickets early and slipped to 54/3 in just seven overs.
At that time, the veteran batsman handled the situation brilliantly by playing a brilliant inning of 45 runs in 33 balls, helping KKR win the match by four wickets and keep their playoff hopes alive.
Before defeating the KKR batsmen, he also easily dismissed the dangerous fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. Actually, this was the first time that Bumrah managed to dismiss Pandey in IPL history.
Before being dismissed, Pandey had scored 86 runs against Bumrah in 12 IPL innings at an impressive strike rate of over 175. Interestingly, Bumrah needed 49 balls to finally get the wicket of Pandey, which is one of the longest waits for the star pacer against any batsman in the IPL.
