Gave India a fast start with the ball in the Super 8 match against South Africa at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday (22 February).

Proteas captain Aiden Markram won the toss and decided to bat first. He also explained the reason behind this decision and said that the pitch looks good for batting.

Markram said, “We are going to bat first. It looks to be a really good wicket – quite dry compared to the previous wicket – so we are not expecting to settle so early. We think it will be a good surface overall and hopefully we can put a nice big score on the board.”

Jasprit Bumrah shocks South Africa:

While Markram and his teammates were expecting a good pitch to bat on, they got a rude shock. Jasprit Bumrah once again performed well with the ball for India by taking two wickets inside the powerplay. After Arshdeep Singh opened the bowling, Jasprit Bumrah bowled the second over and gave India early success by dismissing Quinton de Kock.

It was a back off length delivery from the India pacer that pitched just outside off before diving back in. De Kock tried to slog but was completely beaten as the ball went on to break leg stump.

In the third over, Arshdeep also joined the party with the big wicket of Markram, before Bumrah took another wicket in his second over to put India firmly on top. In the fourth over, the right-arm pacer completely bowled over his Mumbai Indians teammate Ryan Rickelton with a slower ball.

The slower ball pitched outside leg and Rickelton failed to read the ball. The Proteas batsman was a little early in the shot and took the ball straight to Shivam Dubey at mid-off.

Jasprit Bumrah equals Ravichandran Ashwin’s record:
