India’s ace fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah set the Eden Gardens on fire as he welcomed Kyle Warren with a leg-crushing yorker on the very first ball after dismissing Tony De Zorzi in the ongoing first Test against South Africa in Kolkata.

Jasprit Bumrah turned Eden Gardens into his own zone of destruction, proving once again that he doesn’t need the support of the pitch to create chaos. He has already been India’s standout bowler in the inaugural season, and he continued to impress in the Proteas batting lineup.

The thunderbolt that crushed Jasprit Bumrah’s toes at Eden Gardens sent Kyle Vernon to the floor

In the 33rd over, Bumrah bowled a strong yorker on the leg stump of Kyle Verreynne. South Africa’s number seven batsman had no chance as the ball spun sharply and hit him in the leg, causing him to fall to the ground writhing in pain while the crowd screamed in shock.

The Indian camp immediately started appealing loudly and for a moment it looked as if Bumrah had hit straight to the gold, but the umpire signaled leg bye and said that the ball was going towards the leg side. Although Bumrah did not get a wicket, he reminded everyone why he is considered one of the most dangerous bowlers in world cricket.

Jasprit Bumrah turns Eden Gardens into a nightmare for South Africa

Earlier, Jasprit Bumrah had devastated South Africa’s top order with a devastating spell at the Eden Gardens. South Africa had made a solid start, with Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton putting on a rare fifty-run partnership – their first in India after 17 long innings.

They were scoring freely and looked in complete control. But the moment quickly changed as Bumrah returned to bowl his sixth over. As the Indian fast bowler came around the wicket, Rickelton was pushed down the wrong line. The ball took shape at the right time, kissed the outer edge and hit the off stump.

And then in the very next over, Bumrah hit a four in short length. The ball bounced sharply, surprising even the well-set Markram, who could only edge it past wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant. However, Bumrah’s work was not done yet, as Tony De Zorzi was his next victim.

The leading bowler again circled around the wicket and bowled a skid delivery which hit the back leg. De Zorzi reviewed the decision in frustration, but it made things worse for his team as South Africa lost their review with a wicket in hand against India at the Eden Gardens.

Jasprit Bumrah: King of the new ball

Meanwhile, Bumrah has once again proved why he is a nightmare for openers in Test cricket. Since 2018, no bowler has dismissed both openers in an innings more times than the Indian bowler, highlighting his unmatched impact with the new ball in the format.

Bumrah leads the list with an incredible 13 instances of dismissing both openers in the same Test innings. He is followed by former England fast bowler Stuart Broad at third place with 12 appearances, while former Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is at third place with 11 appearances. South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada and England’s James Anderson are placed fourth with nine appearances each.
