In match number 42, it was a low-scoring thriller at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, where Gujarat Titans (GT) faced defending champions Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Chasing the target of 156 runs, Titans won by four wickets with 25 balls remaining.

GT took their revenge from RCB, who had defeated them in the last match. Shubman Gill won the toss and decided to bowl first. Both the teams went with unchanged playing XI. Fans came in large numbers on the night to support their favorite team and enjoyed every moment of the game.

Devdutt Padikkal fights for RCB

After being invited to bat first, RCB opener Jacob Bethel returned to the pavilion with a low score of 5 runs. Virat Kohli looked in good touch from the very first ball, he hit 5 fours in the first over of Kagiso Rabada; However, the South African paceman bowled his second over as Kohli was back on 28 off 13.

Devdutt Padikkal then scored 40 runs as he was the team’s leading run-scorer in the match as a collapse of 18/4 in the middle overs sent RCB on the backfoot. Some finishing touches from Bhuvi and Venkatesh Iyer helped the defending champions cross the 150-run mark as they were bowled out for 155. Jason Holder took two wickets in the match.

Rahul Tewatia won the game for GT

While chasing, Sai Sudarshan failed to trouble the bowlers, going back for 6, however Shubman Gill got off to a bright start, scoring a quickfire 43 off 18 balls and then Jos Buttler scored 39 off 19 balls to help GT keep the current run rate to the required mark.

Although wickets were falling at regular intervals and the match was going in favor of RCB, Rahul Tewatia’s good knock of 27 off 17 balls sealed the game for the Titans as they chased down the target with 25 balls to spare. The southpaw remained unbeaten till the end.

There were pleasant things for me personally – Jason Holder

Jason Holder received the Player of the Match award for his excellent all-round performance in the game, where he took two wickets and three catches in the match, and also contributed 12 runs at the business end, helping his team earn two points.

After winning the POTM, Jason Holder said, “It’s a pleasure for me personally. Felt our energy was good from the start. After the first few overs, everyone was a bit agitated but credit to KG (for turning it around).”

On Rajat Patidar’s catch, Jason Holder said, “I looked at him (Rabada), just hoping that I don’t come near him. He was on my perimeter but he was far enough away that I could have tried to catch him. (On the ball behind him) I welcome it as it comes. Happy to keep the chance. Happy to contribute and get over the line.”

“The way this franchise approaches, you have to be cautious. More or less about coming in and doing the job when needed.”
