Former Australia fast bowler Jason Gillespie shared his list of the greatest T20 bowlers of all time during the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Gillespie placed former Pakistan fast bowler Umar Gul ahead of India star Jasprit Bumrah, a ranking that caught the attention of fans and sparked debate.
At present, Bumrah is seen as the best fast bowler in the world. India have won all three of their group-stage matches and are assured of a place in the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2026. He missed India’s opening game against the United States but returned for the next two matches against Namibia and Pakistan.

Speaking on The Fast Bowling Cartel YouTube channel, Jason Gillespie shared his list of the greatest T20 bowlers of all time during the T20 World Cup 2026. Gillespie placed Lasith Malinga at number 1.
The Sri Lankan legend took 390 wickets in T20 cricket at an average under 20 and an economy rate of 7.07. He also played an important role in Sri Lanka’s T20 World Cup victory in 2014.
Former Australian cricketer Umar Gul was ranked second in the list. Gul played a major role in Pakistan’s 2009 T20 World Cup victory. The right-arm fast bowler ended his T20 career with 222 wickets in 167 matches at an average of 20.16 and an economy rate of 7.65.
Gillespie named Jasprit Bumrah at number three. Bumrah produced a Player of the Tournament performance in India’s 2024 T20 World Cup win. He has taken 334 wickets in 264 T20 matches at an average of 20.36. Mitchell Starc and Hasan Ali were placed at No. 4 and No. 5 respectively.

Glenn McGrath names two Indians in his list of greatest T20I bowlers; Jasprit Bumrah on top
Former Australia fast bowler Glenn McGrath shared his list of the greatest T20I bowlers of all time and included two Indian players in it. McGrath placed Mustafizur Rahman at number 5. The Bangladesh left-arm fast bowler has taken 158 T20I wickets in 126 matches at an average of 21 with an economy rate of 7.28.
McGrath chose Tim Southee at number four in his list. The New Zealand fast bowler has taken 164 wickets in 126 T20Is, which is the second highest in international T20 cricket. Sri Lankan legend Lasith Malinga was placed at the third position considering his long-term impact and success in the shortest format.
McGrath completed his top five with Indian bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh. Arshdeep finished as the joint-highest wicket-taker in the 2024 T20 World Cup with 17 wickets and is India’s leading T20I wicket-taker with 121 wickets in 78 matches.
