Virat Kohli’s childhood coach supported the Indian great and said that after such an illustrious career, he does not need to prove anything. Coach Rajkumar Sharma has also backed Rohit Sharma for his years of dominance for India.
India vs Australia 1st ODI match will be played tomorrow in Perth and Virat Kohli will be seen wearing the Indian jersey for the first time since the ICC Champions Trophy final. Both he and former Indian captain Rohit Sharma decided to pull out of the England tour and announced their retirement from the Test format.
Despite their return to the Indian playing XI, doubts have arisen over the form of both the cricketers after being away from international cricket for so long, especially at this juncture of their careers when each game holds massive importance to decide their fate for the upcoming World Cup.
Rajkumar Sharma said about Virat Kohli, “He is well prepared and whenever he is well prepared, the results are always good.”
Virat Kohli’s childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma believes Kohli does not need to prove his worth as a batsman, having impressed countless times while playing for India. Along with appreciating Kohli’s excellence, he has also expressed confidence in his preparations for the upcoming tour.
Speaking to ANI, Rajkumar Sharma said, “Virat doesn’t need to prove anything, he has achieved everything, the way he has played, the way he has won matches for the country, everyone knows his contribution. He is well prepared, and whenever he is well prepared, the results are always good, and I am confident that he will perform as well as always.”
The form of both the Indian cricketers is being widely debated and immense pressure is mounting on them and the selectors regarding their participation in the upcoming ODI World Cup in 2027.
“I would like to say that both of them are great players, and they have nothing left to prove” – Virat Kohli’s childhood coach
While both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have expressed their desire to play for India till the next World Cup, after very close misses during the domestic edition in 2023, the decision is not entirely dependent on the calls made by the two experienced cricketers. The BCCI selectors as well as the Indian management have their own opinion on his continuity.
Given the current number of talented players in India, both great players have been asked to constantly prove their excellence to stay in the competition; However, Rajkumar mentioned that, given the stature of the duo in Indian cricket, they have nothing to prove.
He said, “I would like to say that both of them are great players, and they have nothing left to prove, because the whole of India knows their contribution to Indian cricket, so if they have to prove themselves at this level, it will be very interesting.”
The fate of Virat and Rohit should be decided only after seeing their performances in several series.
Earlier, Aakash Chopra had said that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma should not be dropped from any team without testing them for at least 2-3 ODI series. Given the pitch in Perth and the long absence of two great players, they may not have the best start to the tournament.
He had also said that the form of such big players cannot be predicted from just one series. However, the Indian management has shown no such intention, with Gambhir clearly indicating that both will have to perform in the Australia tour to retain their places.
