Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) all-rounder Rovman Powell expressed his disappointment over Finn Allen’s controversial dismissal against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Powell said the on-field officials at Eden Gardens on Thursday made a big mistake by not referring the boundary catch to the third umpire.
Allen was out early in the second over bowled by Prince Yadav after scoring just nine runs off eight balls. Digvesh Rathi completed the catch at the deep third-man boundary, but television replays later showed that his leg had made contact with the foam padding. KKR fans were not happy with the umpire’s call.
It was a mistake on their part – Rovman Powell
Rovman Powell said IPL officials generally use the technology for less significant incidents on the field. The West Indies all-rounder said that the entire KKR dugout was surprised when the umpires declared Finn Allen out without checking from all angles.
“It definitely should have been looked at from more angles. We talked about it when he came out. We thought we’ve seen in the IPL where umpires have gone over the top for lesser things, and it’s not that close. Maybe it was a mistake on their part, but we won’t look at it,” Rovman told reporters at the post-match press conference.

Want to make Eden Gardens my fort – KKR all-rounder
LSG chased the target of 181 runs after a brilliant innings from Mukul Chaudhary. The young player ensured two points for the visiting team by scoring unbeaten 54 runs in 27 balls. Ayush Badoni also scored a crucial half-century after top-order batsmen like Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran failed.
KKR posted a competitive score of 181/4 with contributions from Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi. Rovman Powell and Cameron Green provided the finishing touches, but it was not enough against Mukul’s attack. The home team has not won a single match even after four matches and is placed ninth in the table.
“It’s very disappointing. You want to make Kolkata, you want to make Eden Gardens your castle. This is your home, this is your home where you have your fans behind you. So it always feels good to win at home. But, unfortunately, tonight we could not win against Lucknow Supergiants.”
A lot of credit should be given to the boys – Rovman Powell
Rovman Powell also praised his teammates’ fighting spirit despite the controversial dismissal. He admitted that the bowling unit struggled to take control of the game in the final overs of the chase.
“A lot of credit should be given to the boys. I think after scoring 181, we were confident that we could have won the game. But credit goes to young Mukul Choudhary, he batted really well under pressure. We need to recognize our mistakes and come back stronger in the upcoming Indian Premier League matches this month.”
Rishabh Pant-led Lucknow Super Giants are placed fifth in the points table with two wins. Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders need a change to keep their playoff hopes alive. They will now focus on the upcoming matches to get their first win of IPL 2026.
