Ishan Kishan has been showing explosive form since his return to international cricket. He scored 215 runs in the recently concluded 5-match series against New Zealand. He returned to the T20I squad after December 2023. After a two-year long gap, performances in domestic cricket helped him regain his confidence, which he displayed in the series against the Kiwis.
He was recently seen in a video uploaded by 2 Sloggers on his YouTube channel, where he was found talking about his old memories and the fun dressing room moments they shared. In the podcast, when he was asked who were the toughest bowlers he faced, he replied that Jasprit Bumrah and Yuzvendra Chahal.
Only Jasprit Bumrah can trouble Ishan Kishan
Ishan said that Bumrah is the toughest bowler he has faced in the IPL, but in doing so, he revealed a secret of the Indian fast bowler. Ishan said that whenever Bumrah is present, whether during the game or at the nets, Bumrah gives his 100% on the field. Bumrah is not afraid of bowling bouncers to his own teammates in the net sessions.
Speaking on a podcast on YouTube channel, he said, “Among the spinners, I find Yuzi Bhai [Yuzvendra Chahal] hard to play; I think he recognized me. In motion, I mean, nobody does it better [Jasprit] Bumra Bhai. let me tell you a story. Will feel bad. (He may get upset) that I say this everywhere. When we practice we often get different wickets. Some will be grassy, some dry. But whenever there is grass, usually the bowlers attack the batsmen easily, but Bumrah does not believe in this. If a batsman bowls the ball down the middle, you know he will bowl bouncers later.
Ishaan Kishan always keeps the mood light
Jasprit Bumrah and Ishan Kishan were long-time teammates when Ishan Kishan was a part of Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Premier League (IPL) from 2018 to 2024. In 2025, he was picked up by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), where he scored 354 runs for the Orange Army.
During the podcast he also mentioned the funny side of Shubman Gill and how he and the current ODI captain are friends, and how they create funny moments, and also former India captain Rohit Sharma. In the video, he also mentioned the funniest moment with Rohit Sharma during the 2023 Sri Lanka ODI series, when he was dropped after scoring a double century and did not play.
Ishan Kishan is ready to open for India
Ishan Kishan scored one half-century and one century in the 5-match series, but the intent with which he batted was worth watching. More importantly, he showed credibility in the second T20I when he scored a blistering 76 off 32 balls when India were struggling at 6/2 while chasing the target of 209.
The southpaw has been in trouble, and being a wicketkeeper, he is the frontrunner to open the innings for India with Abhishek Sharma replacing Sanju Samson, who has been in poor form in recent times.
