Pakistan cricket and players are in the headlines for the wrong reasons. Clouds of uncertainty are looming over the India vs Pakistan 2026 T20 World Cup match. Pakistan cricketer Usman Tariq remains in the headlines for his unusual action. A video has surfaced of Australian all-rounder Cameron Green going back to the dressing room after taking the wicket of Australian all-rounder Cameron Green in the second T20 match against Australia.
Cameron Green, as he was walking back after being dismissed, was angry because he was caught showing the ‘chucking gesture’. The same discussion was there during the match and after the game and is still there. Former Indian ICC umpire Anil Chaudhary has expressed his views on Tariq’s bowling action.
‘There is no bending and straightening as per the guidelines’- Anil Choudhary
Former ICC panel umpire believes Pakistan spinner’s action is legal after investigation in Australia series. Chaudhary said that because Tariq uses a side-on trajectory and bowls all his balls in the same manner with little pause, his action is completely legal and falls within ICC norms.
Anil Chaudhary discussed Usman Tariq’s action on his Instagram channel, saying, “I’ve got a video about Usman Tariq’s bowling action. If you look at his action, it’s a bit side-on and a bit different, and he bowls with a bit of a pause. However, since he bowls all his balls in the same way, and there is no bending and straightening of his arm as per the guidelines, the action is absolutely fine. It’s different and he bowls with a pause. He does, but he bowls all the balls the same way.” In my opinion, their action is justified and it is a fair delivery.”
Usman Tariq caught twice
However, Usman Tariq has been reported twice by the umpires in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in 2025 and 2024 respectively. However, the spinner has also undergone two biomechanical tests at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore. On both occasions the officials approved Tariq’s action and allowed him to continue bowling in the T20 tournament.
The spinner made his T20I debut in November 2025 and has taken eight wickets in three innings so far in his international career. After this incident with Green, Tariq hit back at the Australian all-rounder on Instagram. The Pakistan spinner shared an Instagram story, titled: “After getting out”, which included a video of a child making fun of Green. Pakistan won the T20 series against Australia for the first time since 2018, completing a clean sweep at the 2021 T20 World Cup.
Usman Khawaja in support of Usman Tariq
Former Australian batsman Usman Khawaja has also supported Usman Tariq. He said that the spinner’s action has already been approved on several occasions and he is performing well. Khawaja talked about the psychological impact such claims can have on a player.
Khawaja wrote on his Instagram Stories, “There is nothing worse than being called a chukker in cricket. The stigma is real. The man is just doing his best and he has been acquitted twice. Let’s have some perspective and understanding and stop jumping to conclusions.”
