Shubhman Gill has finally completed his recovery at the BCCI Center of Excellence and is all set to make a comeback for India in the shortest format of the game. He has mastered the final set of his skills and fitness training and is all set to play for India in Cuttack.

Indian captain Shubman Gill, who came to play for India in the first Test at Eden Gardens, was suffering from neck cramps. He could not play the second Test of the series and the subsequent ODI series. He is ready to make a comeback in the T20 series.

Shubman Gill has completed his recovery and has been selected in India’s T20 squad against South Africa. This series will start in Cuttack on 9th December. This will be the first time that India and South Africa will face each other after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 final.

“As an athlete you can’t ask for better facilities,” said Shubman Gill.

Shubman Gill has confirmed his recovery and has completed all the fitness exercises before returning to the field for India.

“I am feeling a lot better. I think from the day I came here till today, I have taken a lot of skill sessions and some training sessions, so I am feeling a lot better now,” Gill said in a video shared by BCCI.

He reflects on how the world-class facilities at COE shaped his formative years, and how the facilities can easily be the best an athlete deserves.

“From recovery to training, I think it can’t get any better for an athlete, you know. It’s heaven for any athlete who wants to get better physically and mentally. I mean, you can’t ask for better facilities. We have oxygen chambers; there’s cryo, and some of the things I’ve used for recovery are just amazing to me.”

He said, “The most striking thing for me was that there were so many machines there that I didn’t know how to use them. That in itself tells you how big the facility is.”

“We used to be surprised by the players going to NCA,” Shubman Gill said, remembering his under-16 days.

The Indian vice-captain also recalled his time during his Under-14 and Under-16 days, when Shubman Gill used to be in awe of the players who made it to the National Cricket Academy.

“Playing Under-14 and Under-16, you know, we used to have this thing where we felt like someone had gone to NCA and came back. Seeing that player, we used to be amazed by that thing.

“If you play the finals of the Under-16 games, we play around 7-8 games. Out of the 200 or more players who play this edition of the game, hardly 25-30 players make it to the NCA, and that used to be a big deal,” Shubman Gill recalled.

Shubman Gill explains how CoE enhances skills among players

The COE already has a number of facilities in place to enhance the skills of cricketers, and in addition to this, Gill has said that players who really intend to raise their status in the game should come to the COE and work closely with the coaches.

“When you’re coming here, you know you’re kind of the best. So you know you have the skill set to be able to get to the facility and use the facility, and you know how I can physically get to the next level.”

He concluded, “You’ve got all the coaches here to work with you, and you’ve got all the trainers here and all the physios. But how willing you are to work on yourself from that aspect will take you a notch above the rest of the players.”
