IndiaThe T-20 team may have got a settled core, but former all-rounder Irfan Pathan He believes there is still room for new faces before the next ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Pathan has strongly supported Rajat Patidar for a place in India’s T20I setup, arguing that the right-handed batsman provides an important balance in the batting order at a time when the team is loaded with left-handed batsmen.
Sharing his views on social media platform X, Pathan said India should use the time available before the next global event to test new combinations, with Patidar among the players who deserve a consistent opportunity.
Irfan Pathan explains why Rajat Patidar should be included in India’s T20 team
Pathan’s endorsement of Patidar was based on India’s current batting structure rather than recent performances. According to the former India cricketer, the increasing number of left-handed batsmen in the T20I squad makes the inclusion of a reliable right-handed middle-order batsman even more valuable.
“Given the number of left-handed batsmen in the Indian T20 team right now, it’s even more reason for Team India to think about promoting Rajat Patidar. I really hope he gets a chance, especially because Team India still has a lot of time to experiment before the next T20 World Cup.” Pathan wrote on X.
His comments come at a time when India’s T20 setup is evolving under a new generation of players. While several left-handed batsmen have cemented their places, the selectors are still assessing options capable of strengthening the middle order and providing tactical flexibility against different bowling attacks. Pathan believes that Patidar meets that requirement and can become an important option if he is given consistent chances instead of sporadic appearances.
Considering the number of left-handed batsmen in the Indian T20 team right now, this is a big reason for Team India to pursue Rajat Patidar.

His performance in high-pressure matches has also earned him praise from many former cricketers, many of whom believe that he has the required temperament for international cricket. The 33-year-old has already represented India in limited opportunities, but he is yet to establish himself as a regular member of the T20 team.
