Following the Men in Green team’s exit from the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2026, former Indian cricketers Irfan Pathan and Munaf Patel took to social media to mock Pakistan. Despite Pakistan winning their final match against Sri Lanka, New Zealand became the second team after England to qualify for the semi-finals from Super 8 Group 2.
Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by just five runs on Saturday, 28 February, but it was not enough to keep them in the race for the semi-finals. The Salman Aga-led side needed to win the match by at least 65 runs to improve their net run rate ahead of New Zealand. Both the semi-finals and final will be played in India.
Munaf Patel and Irfan Pathan trolled Pakistan fiercely after being out of T20 World Cup 2026.
As it became mathematically impossible for Pakistan to qualify, Munaf Patel posted a picture from the match and captioned it, “Come on brother, now it’s official that Pakistan is out… Khatam, ta ta, bye bye, gaya.”

Irfan Pathan also joined this statement and said that Pakistan’s progress no longer makes any difference to India. The reactions quickly went viral, with Indian fans joining forces with former cricketers to mock their traditional rivals.
Pathan wrote, “Won’t even bother asking questions. Because it doesn’t matter to us.”

Because it doesn’t matter to us.

This is the second consecutive time that Pakistan has failed to reach the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup after being eliminated in the group stage in 2024. While India remains in the race as defending champions, Pakistan will have to return home.
Pakistan’s declining performance in ICC events since 2020
Pakistan’s performance in major ICC tournaments has declined over the years. The team reached the knockout stage in 2021 and 2022, and made the semi-finals and final in those editions. The Men in Green lost to Australia in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2021 and lost to England in the 2022 final.
Since then, Pakistan has struggled to progress and failed to progress beyond the group stage at the 2023 ODI World Cup, 2024 T20 World Cup and 2025 Champions Trophy.
The struggles continued in 2026, with Pakistan being eliminated at the Super 8 stage and missing the semi-finals. The semi-finals will be played on March 4 and 5 in Kolkata and Mumbai, while the final will be held on March 8 in Ahmedabad.
All eyes are on India and West Indies in the final Super 8 match.
After Pakistan’s official exit, all eyes are now on defending champions India. They will take on West Indies at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Sunday, March 1. This match is a virtual quarterfinal, and the winner will claim a place in the final semi-final to face England next week.
The Suryakumar Yadav-led side had a poor start in the Super 8s as they lost to South Africa by 76 runs, but they bounced back with an emphatic 72-run win over Zimbabwe.
West Indies, on the other hand, started their Super 8 campaign with a 107-run win over Zimbabwe before suffering a nine-wicket defeat to South Africa. Both teams currently have two points each and the Eden Gardens pitch is expected to favor the big hitters.
