The 10th edition of the ICC T20 World Cup is scheduled to begin from February 7 in India and Sri Lanka. According to the current schedule, Bangladesh has been placed in Group C along with England, West Indies, Nepal and Italy.
Ireland, on the other hand, are part of Group B, where they will face Australia, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe and Oman in the upcoming showpiece event. Speculation began following reports that ongoing tensions between India and Bangladesh could cause scheduling or logistics problems, leading to a possible reshuffle of the groups.

Ireland’s name came up as a team that could be dropped from their group for a change, as Bangladesh wanted to play all their matches in Sri Lanka due to security reasons. The situation caused uncertainty, but the ICC has now given a clear message.
ICC clarifies position, confirms no changes for Ireland
Cricket Ireland has reportedly been informed by the ICC that there will be no changes to the group under any circumstances. Ireland will remain in Group B and their tournament schedule will proceed exactly as planned.
It has also been confirmed that Ireland’s matches will be played in Sri Lanka, as originally planned. There have been no changes to venues or group placements.

ICC will take final decision on Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup 2026 matches next week
Uncertainty continues over Bangladesh’s participation in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026 as the ICC is set to take a final decision on the matter. According to ANI report, the ICC will travel to Bangladesh in the next few days for a one-on-one meeting with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

The final decision will be taken after this meeting. Bangladesh’s tour of India for the T20 World Cup matches is still not finalized as the BCB has asked the ICC to shift their matches out of India citing the safety of its players.
The road to T20 World Cup 2026 glory will begin from February 7.
Meanwhile, the multi-nation tournament will begin with the group stage, where teams will play a total of 40 matches in India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to February 20. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super Eights, which begins on February 21.
This stage will decide which teams are strong enough to advance. After the Super Eights, only four teams will qualify for the knockout round. The semi-finals will be played in Kolkata and Colombo, with the top two teams from the semi-finals facing off for the coveted trophy on March 8.
