Cricket Ireland has announced its team for the upcoming T20 matches against India. Ireland will host India for a two-match T20 series in Belfast. Ahead of the competition, he has named him as his new captain in this format, replacing Paul Stirling.

Lorcan Tucker has been appointed captain of the team for the upcoming series.

Many stars have held back due to injury concerns

The selection has been affected due to several injuries and fitness-related issues, with the Ireland cricket administration having to drop some of their top talents such as Josh Little (stress fracture), Mark Adair (rectus muscle tear), Paul Stirling (torn calf muscle), Curtis Campher (hand fracture), Barry McCarthy (complete ACL tear), Jordan Neal (shoulder and leg injury).

At times due to absenteeism, many youth are called to join the National Camp. Jai Mundhra, Matthew Hollard and Ruben Wilson are the three uncapped players who have been included in the squad.

I look back with admiration – Lorcan Tucker on becoming Ireland captain

The top-order batsman of the Ireland cricket team has served as a stand-in captain twice in his career after making his debut for the national team in 2016. Tucker has also gained leadership experience in domestic cricket with his inter-provincial side, Leinster Lightning.

“It’s obviously a huge privilege, and one I didn’t think would happen when I started my career so many years ago. There’s a sense of responsibility to the playing group and the organization to represent them well, and also to all the other captains who came before me.”

Newly appointed captain Lorcan Tucker said after today’s training, “I admire all the captains who have led Ireland in the past and am proud to join them now.”

The newly appointed captain explains his vision as captain of the team

Lorcan Tucker, who has prior captaincy experience, says he will try to get the best from his teammates and, as the team leader, set an example himself.

“My approach to captaincy is to lead from within and by example. I feel I have good relationships with all the staff and players and can work with integrity and empathy. I feel it is my job to bring out the best in them and allow them to do amazing things for themselves and us as a team,” he said, while he was asked to clarify his approach as captain of the national cricket team.

Among the newcomers, Matthew Hollard and Jay Mundhra have received their first call-ups to the senior camp, while Ruben Wilson, who is uncapped in T20I cricket, made his Test debut against New Zealand last month.
