Former Australian fast bowler Mitchell Johnson has credited his time in the IPL for shaping Indian cricket and increasing its cricketing depth. He cited this as an example for Australia, which failed to progress beyond the group stage of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.

Australia’s famous cricketer Mitchell Johnson has had a huge influence on Australian cricket. He was part of many of their successful campaigns, including ICC World Cup titles in 2007 and 2015 and Champions Trophy wins for Australia. However, he never won a single T20 World Cup with the mighty Australian team.

Johnson has played six seasons in the IPL and his most successful season has been with Mumbai Indians. He won three titles in 2013, 2015 and 2017 before playing his final season in 2018 for Kolkata Knight Riders.

Mitchell Johnson hurt by Australia’s World Cup exit after dreadful performance in Sri Lanka

Former Australian fast bowler Mitchell Johnson has largely credited the IPL’s role in shaping India’s development in the shortest format of the game; However, he seems hurt by Australia’s disappointing exit from the ICC T20 World Cup.

“I recently talked about Australia’s Big Bash League and how Australia failing to reach the Super 8 stage was not a good advertisement for the competition,” Johnson wrote in his column for ‘The West Australian’.

The Australians failed to qualify for the Super 8 stage of the competition after losing consecutive matches to Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka in the group-stages and were eliminated from the competition. They failed to retaliate and suffered humiliating defeats against two weaker players.

“India, on the other hand, have demonstrated the strength of their T20 system through performance rather than words,” Johnson said.

He then added, “It’s something that Australian cricket is historically proud of, showing the world how to do things through results on the field, and that’s why Australia’s performance in this World Cup is sore.”

Johnson suggests IPL has reshaped modern Indian cricket

The 44-year-old Australian fast bowler has talked about the time he spent in making the IPL a powerhouse of talent. He said the time and money invested over a long period of time is now bearing fruit.

He wrote, “India’s success shows that years of building the IPL into a global powerhouse have paid off. The depth, experience and confidence of their players reflect that environment.”

India not only made it to the finals and won the competition but also played excellent cricket. India’s real value was in their gameplay, their explosiveness and fearless attack on the ball.

The former fast bowler further added, “Even though they fell short in the final, the broader message has already been sent. India have proved that their T20 structure works.”

IPL will start from March 28

The IPL was India’s own and one of the world’s oldest franchise-level T20 leagues, created in 2008, and has since become a highly successful competition that has attracted global talent to India.

Indian youngsters have the opportunity to fight against unique talents from around the world and turn the Indian team into one of the most unstoppable opponents in world cricket.

Every year, IPL produces so much new talent that it keeps every young player excited, as they have to keep performing without any failure to be a part of the team. This makes them one of the most competitive sides in the competition.
