Renowned Star Sports presenter and commentator, Tanay Tiwari has revealed an unheard story related to MS Dhoni from that infamous Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) vs Chennai Super Kings (CSK) IPL 2024 match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on May 18, 2024.
It was a do or die match for both of them Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings teams, and the pressure was immense. RCB players celebrated fiercely on the field after reaching the IPL playoffs by winning over CSK by 27 runs.

As the crowd gathered inside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, RCB players were running here and there, hugging each other and enjoying the moment. On the other hand, the CSK camp appeared completely scattered. Dhoni was also disappointed with CSK’s playoff hopes being dashed.

After the match, CSK players came forward for the usual handshake line, but RCB players were still busy celebrating their famous win. CSK players were left waiting near the boundary ropes. After waiting for some time, Dhoni’s patience broke and he shook hands with the RCB support staff near the boundary and quietly walked straight towards the dressing room.
Later, former India spinner Harbhajan Singh revealed that Dhoni was so upset after being walked off the field that he reportedly punched a screen outside the dressing room area. Before expressing his anger in the dressing room, Dhoni was already very angry during that IPL match. Speaking on Ranveer Allahbadia’s ‘The Ranveer Show’, Tanay Tiwary revealed that MS Dhoni was very upset and angry after CSK’s defeat by RCB in the virtual knockout match in Chennai.
Yash Dayal dismissed the great cricketer after scoring 25 runs in 13 balls and this was the turning point of the match. Dhoni knew that if he had been there, the result could have been different and that is why he was just “boiling” in anger in the dugout.

He also shared another incident when Dhoni surprised fans by losing his cool on the field during the 2025 IPL match against Gujarat Titans.
The CSK legend was seen frustrated after Mathisha Pathirana and Shivam Dubey failed to follow his fielding instructions properly during the match.

Dhoni was trying to change the field placement, but Dubey and Pathirana did not respond immediately to his signals. This angered the earlier captain and he was seen openly giving instructions and showing frustration on the field. This was a rare emotional outburst from Dhoni on the field.

Notably, Dhoni did not play a single game in the ongoing IPL 2026. For the first time in IPL history, the CSK legend missed the entire season due to a calf injury and a thumb injury.
