IPL 2026 will be called off…

The LPG crisis in India has had a staggering impact on many operations across the country over the past few weeks; However, now the matter has escalated so much that it may impact IPL 2026.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the upcoming IPL 2026 schedule for the first 20 matches citing the upcoming elections in some of the states hosting the IPL games. However, it seems that the war-like situation in the Middle East is now putting restrictions on the smooth conduct of the upcoming edition of the IPL.

IPL is a very long tournament and players will stay in India with their families for a long time. Amid the LPG crisis, the Indian population is struggling to meet its own needs and may not be in a good position to extend hospitality to its visitors.

IPL 2026 will be affected by LPG crisis in India

The US-Israeli attacks on Iran and Tehran’s retaliation have closed the Strait of Hormuz, a key sea route through which India receives the majority of its LPG imports from Middle Eastern countries such as Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

Therefore, the province of India, which is home to billions of people, is currently in a major crisis for LPG, which is largely used as cooking gas. According to a recent report in India Today, the IPL Governing Council is also closely monitoring the situation and may take some precautionary decisions.

“We can’t give up on the situation. We have to wait and see. Everyone we’ve spoken to says things are under control. Hotels are also saying the same, so we have to go by that for now,” the report quoted the official as saying.

BCCI said in its statement, everything is fine at the moment

India Today report also said that the situation is currently under control and there will be no hindrance in the smooth conduct of IPL. However, the situation in the Middle East is worsening over time and may have an impact here as well.

“For now, everything is fine. We will keep an eye on the situation. Why should we think ahead and decide anything now?” He said.

However, it seems clear that the organizers have not seen any immediate reason to make changes to the IPL 2026 schedule or arrangements.

The official concluded, “We will definitely act as per the situation. If the situation demands that we do something, we will take necessary steps.”

Unavailability of Dubai airspace could hinder arrival of foreign players for IPL

Along with the LPG situation, several other problems have also hampered the preparations for IPL 2026, as the arrival of foreign players who play key roles in the IPL has become a major issue due to the closure of Dubai Airbase, a major connecting stopover between distant countries and India.

Players have faced this situation before too, when they were stuck in India and could not leave for home after the ICC T20 World Cup. Eventually he was taken on a charter flight to South Africa and the West Indies via Johannesburg.

Although Australian and New Zealand airbases are unaffected, players, coaches, broadcasters and even some fans often use the Dubai route to fly into India. Furthermore, during IPL 2026, his country or the ICC will not take the responsibility of flying him home; Therefore, charter flights would not be an option in that scenario.
