RCB’s power-hitters tim david It became the talking point of the match when an unusual moment occurred on the field involving the match ball which left the umpire looking quite disappointed.
Tim David’s ball controversy sparks drama in MI vs RCB match
The incident occurred during the 18th over of RCB’s innings, when David hit a powerful six off MI captain Hardik Pandya. Delivery, full toss on leg stump, sent deep into the stands with immense power. However, as it appeared that the impact affected the shape of the ball, and moisture also became a factor, the umpires decided it was time for a replacement.
As the fourth umpire took out a box of used balls, what happened next was rarely seen in professional cricket. Instead of letting the officials handle the process, David picked up one of the balls and began examining it himself. He examined the seam and grip carefully, almost like a bowler assessing the conditions before a spell.
Despite repeated instructions by on-field umpires Virender Sharma and Swaroopanand Kannur to hand over the ball, David continued to inspect it, delaying the proceedings. The situation became increasingly tense as the umpires became more frustrated by the batsman’s refusal to cooperate.
The standoff finally ended when Virender Sharma issued a warning from a distance. Then David returned the ball, so that the game could resume. This unusual episode drew immediate reactions from commentators and fans.

Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra did not hold back in his assessment, saying, “As a batsman, you are not allowed to do that. He can’t check the ball. And if the size of the ball is a problem, it is because you have hit a six on it.” He said.
Adding a touch of humor to the moment, former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn commented, “Everyone wanted to be a ballplayer.”
What does the rule book say?
From a rules perspective, David’s actions could potentially fall under Article 2.10.7 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which relates to time wasting by players. According to the laws set by the MCC, a batsman may briefly inspect the ball, but while doing so he does not have the right to hold the ball or delay play.
Although no official action has yet been taken, the match referee may still review the incident. If deemed necessary, David could face a fine or formal reprimand for his actions. At present the situation is being monitored.
Interestingly, the tension on the field did not last long. MI veteran Rohit Sharma stepped forward after the incident and had a light chat with David, which helped in calming the atmosphere. The brief moment of camaraderie brought smiles back to the faces of both players and put an end to what could have been further.
