KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and elected to bowl first, hoping the pitch will provide some early help. However, this decision did not go as planned as the SRH batsmen came out with aggressive intent from the start.

Explosive batting led to huge scores for SRH

SRH’s innings was built on aggressive stroke play and strong partnerships, with several batsmen contributing valuable runs. The start was made by openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, who surprised the KKR bowlers with their fearless approach.

The pair made a quick partnership of 82 runs in just 34 balls. Head scored 46 runs in 21 balls, while Abhishek looked equally dangerous, scoring 48 runs in 21 balls. Their aggressive start ensured SRH remained well ahead of the game inside the powerplay.

Although both the openers fell in quick succession, the momentum did not wane. Ishan Kishan played a short but impactful innings, while Heinrich Klaasen took charge in the middle overs. Klaasen opened the innings with a composed but aggressive 52 off 35 balls, mixing smart placement with powerful hitting.

For KKR, Blessing Muzarabani stood out as the only bright spot. The Zimbabwean pace bowler took 4 for 41 and dismissed key batsmen, but he did not get support from the rest of the bowling unit, which struggled to stem the flow of runs.

KKR’s target faltered under pressure

Chasing a challenging target of 227 runs, Kolkata Knight Riders needed a great start. Although they showed glimpses of aggression, they failed to build consistent partnerships and kept losing wickets at crucial moments.

Finn Allen provided an explosive start, scoring 28 runs off just 7 balls and giving hope for a strong chase for some time. However, his early dismissal halted the momentum. After this, Angkrish Raghuvanshi showed composure under pressure and played a fighting inning of 52 runs in 29 balls.

Despite their efforts, wickets kept falling at the other end. Rahane and Cameron Green failed to make an impact, leaving KKR struggling to maintain the required pace.

Rinku Singh tried to steady the innings by scoring a quickfire 35, but once he was out, the chase effectively failed. The lower order could not put up much resistance as the demand rate increased rapidly.

SRH bowlers executed their plans very well. Jaydev Unadkat led the attack with figures of 3/21, and struck at crucial moments to derail KKR’s chase. He was well supported by Ishan Malinga, who impressed with 2/14, while Nitish Reddy and Harsh Dubey took important wickets.
