IPL 2026: Fans react as Punjab Kings chase down 220 brilliantly to beat SRH – Shashank Singh, Shreyas Iyer star

In a run-fest at the Maharaja Yadvendra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Punjab Kings (PBKS) chased down a spectacular target to defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by six wickets with seven balls to spare. After SRH posted a challenging score of 219/6, PBKS registered their third win thanks to Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy innings with the help of explosive half-centuries from openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh. ipl 2026.

SRH innings: Abhishek Sharma attacks

Opting to bowl first, PBKS were immediately put to the sword. SRH openers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head added 120 runs for the first wicket in just 49 balls. Abhishek was the aggressive one, scoring 74 runs in 28 balls (5 fours, 8 sixes) at a strike rate of 264.29, while Head contributed a quickfire 38 runs in 23 balls.

After the early dismissal of the openers to part-time bowler Shashank Singh, captain Ishan Kishan (27 runs in 17 balls) and Heinrich Klaasen (39 runs in 33 balls) added 47 runs. A late cameo from Aniket Verma (18 off 9) pushed SRH to 219/6. Arshdeep Singh (2/50) and Shashank Singh (2/20) were the best bowlers, while Marco Johnson (0/40) and Yuzvendra Chahal (0/33) remained wicketless.

PBKS chase: Shreyas Iyer’s quiet end

Chasing 220, PBKS openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh came out with full force. Both of them added 99 runs in just 38 balls for the first wicket. Arya scored 57 runs (5 fours, 5 sixes) in 20 balls at an impressive strike rate of 285, while Prabhasimran scored 51 runs (4 fours, 5 sixes) in 25 balls. His attack helped PBKS reach 93/0 in the powerplay overs.

Cooper Connolly (11) was out cheaply after both openers including Shivang Kumar (3/33) were out. But Shreyas Iyer took the lead in chasing the target by scoring unbeaten 69 runs (6 fours, 5 sixes) on 33 balls. He got full support from Nehal Vadhera (14 off 14 balls) and Shashank (16 not out off 9 balls). Iyer completed his half-century in just 25 balls and finished the game in spectacular fashion. Hit the winning run in the 19th over.

Iyer was also chosen Player of the Match for his excellent batting.
