Former captain of all formats of the Indian national cricket team, Rohit Sharma has lost a lot of weight ahead of the white ball series against the Australian national cricket team.
Was this weight loss journey inspired by the world’s fittest cricketer Virat Kohli? This question is in the minds of some fans and now the real reason behind Rohit Sharma’s weight loss has come to light.
Rohit Sharma lost 8 kg weight
Ahead of the Asia Cup 2025, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) called Indian cricketers for a fitness test, which was conducted at the BCCI Center of Excellence in Bengaluru.
Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Shubman Gill, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Siraj, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jitesh Sharma and other players underwent a series of exercises under new strength and conditioning coach Adrian Le Roux.
All the players were successful in passing the fitness test and it was reported that World Cup-winning captain Rohit looked in good shape at the BCCI Center of Excellence.
When Rohit returned to Mumbai, fans noticed that he was looking quite slim wearing a black T-shirt and joggers. Later, Indian Express journalist Devendra Pandey revealed that Rohit Sharma has lost 8 kg in recent weeks, demonstrating remarkable determination to transform his body.
Cruel trolling forces Rohit Sharma to lose weight
Rohit is working hard in the nets and gym before returning to international cricket in the Australia ODI series. He was also seen training with former India assistant coach Abhishek Nair, who has now made a big revelation on the fitness transformation of the former Indian captain.
Nair highlighted that Rohit faced heavy trolling after some pictures of him coming out of the airport went viral in which he was not seen in ideal condition. Abhishek Nair confirmed that this was the moment when the great modern-day batsman realized that change was needed.
“There was a lot of talk about his weight gain and some of his pictures coming out of the airport. So, it was about changing all that and becoming healthy, fast and fit in many ways,” Nair was quoted as saying by Star Sports.
Whether he is captain or not, it will never change the way he plays – Abhishek Nair
Rohit Sharma has been sacked as ODI captain ahead of the Australia tour, and he will play under Shubman Gill in the matches against the Australian team.
However, Abhishek Nair believes that this will not change the way he bats when opening the innings. The former India assistant coach believes that Rohit will continue to play in a selfless style and put the needs of the team above his own needs.
The former assistant coach of Team India said, “Whether he is the captain or not, it will never change the way he plays for this team and his teammates.”
Rohit and other Indian players have already reached Perth for the opening match of the ODI series against Australia and also had a good practice session on Thursday.
