Dilip Vengsarkar, a skipper of former India’s national cricket team, has dropped out in star batsman Shreyas Iyer to take a break from red-ball cricket for six months.

Dilip Vengsarkar said that Shreyas Iyer takes a break from red-ball cricket, giving fitness issues as an excuse, but being completely fit for the white ball is beyond his comprehension.

The 30 -year -old Iyer has played 14 Test matches for the India National Cricket Team and scored 811 runs at an average of 36.86 with one hundred and five fifties.

He last played a Test match for India in February 2024 and was dropped from the side due to form and fitness issues. After that, he went on a piece in domestic cricket and also played several red balls matches.

Shreyas Iyer was recently nominated as India A captain for the four -day Games against Australia A, and after playing the first match of the series, he decided to withdraw from another.

He was also in queue to be nominated in the rest of India squad for the Iranian Cup, and had hopes of his return to the Indian Test team for the Home Series against the West Indies.

However, the batsman requested the BCCI for a six-month break from red-ball cricket due to concerns about his back, and the BCCI indicated him a green color. BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia said that he would give Iyer time to endure his body and work at fitness level during this period.

However, former India captain and BCCI selector Dilip Vengsarkar is not happy to see Shreyas Iyer away from red-ball cricket, at the same time playing fitness and playing white ball cricket. He clearly stated that if a player is fit for white ball cricket, then he is also fit for red-ball cricket. Talking to mid-day, he said:

“To be honest, this is a dilemma for me, because he [Iyer] It is said that he is unfit for red-ball cricket, but white-ball is fit for cricket. I do not understand the difference between red-ball cricket and white-ball cricket.

He said, “I think if you are fit for white-ball cricket, you are clearly fit for red-ball cricket. Choosing a red-ball or white-ball and such things are beyond my comprehension,” he said.
