The India national cricket team will travel to England for a white-ball tour against the England national cricket team. Shubman Gill’s team will face a three-match ODI series as well as a five-match T20I series. Earlier, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had announced the squad for the T20 series.
Now, the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee has also announced the 15-member squad for the ODI series. Shubman Gill will remain the captain and Shreyas Iyer will be his deputy. The team is almost the same, with the addition of some names who were not present in the recently concluded ODI series against Afghanistan.
Virat Kohli included in the Indian team
Virat Kohli has been included in the squad but he will only be able to participate in the series as he is subject to clearance from the COE, as he suffered a hamstring injury during the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 final against Gujarat Titans (GT), which forced him to miss the series against Afghanistan.
The Men in Blue will be hoping that Virat Kohli is fully fit and will play in the series, his experience of playing in England and batting at No. 3 for India in this format has been great. No better batsman in India can replace the former captain in the team and bat with the responsibility that Kohli does.
Jasprit Bumrah returns to ODI team; Jaiswal was removed
Rohit Sharma will continue as the opening batsman as the veteran was in good form in the last series against Afghanistan, where he scored 48 and 79 runs in the last two matches. Apart from Rohit, Ishan Kishan is in the team for his excellent performances in white-ball cricket in recent times. However, the latter could be the backup to KL Rahul in the team.
Prince Yadav and Harsh Dubey, who made their debut in the previous series, have been dropped, with Jasprit Bumrah back in the squad as he looks set to play his first ODI since November 19, 2023. Harshit Rana has been included in the team in place of Prince Yadav, and Axar Patel is back in the team.
Despite scoring a century and performing brilliantly in the last ODI, Yashasvi Jaiswal has also been dropped from the team. However, if Virat Kohli is not available for the series, the southpaw could be added to the squad.
Varun Chakraborty out
Leaving aside the England squad, the Men in Blue have suffered a blow as Varun Chakravarthy has been ruled out of the Ireland series, which is scheduled to begin on June 28, 2026. The spinner is in the final stages of his rehab at the BCCI CoE after suffering an injury to his left leg while playing for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2026.
Before the ODI series, the Men in Blue are scheduled to play 8 T20 matches, three of which will be against Ireland and then England. Vaibhav Suryavanshi will be one of the players to keep an eye on in the shortest format series as he has been swiftly included in the senior team.
