The India national cricket team will play against the Sri Lanka national cricket team for a two-match Test series away from home as part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-2027. According to reports, the first Test match is reportedly scheduled to start on 15 August 2026 at the Galle International Stadium in southern Sri Lanka.

Beyond that, there are no Tests for the Men in Blue as they head to Ireland for a T20I and ODI tour, followed by England, and then play Zimbabwe on the road. The Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) has already announced the T20 squad for the UK tour and Asian Games 2026.
India will play in Sri Lanka after 9 years
It is going to be a tough test for Shubman Gill’s team as they prepare to climb the WTC cycle. The venue of the second Test, starting on August 23, has not been announced yet. It is most likely to be given to the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) ground in central Colombo.

India last toured Sri Lanka for a Test series in 2017, when Virat Kohli was the captain of the team, and after almost a decade, they will be visiting the Islanders once again. As was the case the last time India toured for a Test series, they whitewashed the home team and won the series 3–0. However, since then, a lot of things have changed for the Men in Blue team.
Sri Lanka to trouble Shubman Gill and his boys with spin
India recently recorded a resounding win over Afghanistan in a one-off Test, which was not part of the WTC cycle. As the home team defeated the Afghans by an innings and 300 runs, it proved to be their biggest win in Test cricket, surpassing their previous record of defeating West Indies in 2018 where they had won by an innings and 272 runs.
However, the problem with Shubman Gill and his boys is that they have lost two home series against New Zealand and South Africa respectively, which shows their deep concerns of trouble against spin and with the spin tracks in Sri Lanka, the Men in Blue will be very cautious about their problems against spin and will try to overcome them in the series.
