Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced the rescheduled three-match ODI series against India in August-September. However, uncertainty remains over the tour, as it remains to be seen whether the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will approve the trip to Bangladesh given the current political situation.
BCCI asked Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to release Mustafizur Rahman from the team for IPL 2026. The decision has sparked debate, with fans from both India and Bangladesh reacting in different ways. This decision by BCCI has come amidst tension after violent incidents including the murder of Dipu Das.
BCCI’s Mustafizur call draws mixed reactions and doubts rise over India-Bangladesh series
BCCI’s decision to ask Knight Riders to release Mustafizur Rahman has received reactions on social media in India. Many fans welcomed the move and said that the fast bowler should not have been selected in the first place. He praised BCCI for adopting a clear stand.
However, some posts went much further, calling for a widespread ban and boycott. This decision has also raised questions over the future of the white ball series between India and Bangladesh to be held in September.
Earlier, the series was postponed due to India’s busy schedule and political unrest in Bangladesh. With the latest developments, it is still unclear whether the tour will go ahead as planned or not.
I have no comment to give – BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia
Even after the announcement of the schedule by Bangladesh Cricket Board, BCCI continued to avoid giving a clear answer on India’s proposed Bangladesh tour. BCCI secretary Devjit Saikia said the board will not comment at this stage and said the final decision rests with the government.
Saikia’s reaction comes amid concerns over recent attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh. When asked directly whether he would travel to India under the current circumstances, he declined to elaborate, saying, “At this time, I have no comment to give.”
“We did not travel to Bangladesh even last year. BCB released its international calendar, but it seems doubtful, as we need the approval of the Indian government to play in any other country. As far as the T20 World Cup is concerned, Bangladesh will play as per the scheduled games in India,” a top BCCI official was quoted as saying by Indian Express.

BCB confirms India’s limited overs tour of Bangladesh
According to a BCB media release, India will tour Bangladesh for a limited overs series. The three-match ODI series will be played on September 1, 3 and 6, followed by three T20 matches on September 9, 12 and 13. India are expected to reach Bangladesh on August 28 to prepare for the series.
The tour was originally scheduled for August 2025, but was postponed indefinitely last year due to political unrest and security concerns in Bangladesh. After discussions between both boards, the series was pushed back by more than a year to address safety and scheduling issues.
The situation has also raised questions over Bangladesh’s participation in the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which India is co-hosting.
Bangladesh are currently scheduled to play their group matches at the Eden Gardens and Wankhede Stadium, but there is growing speculation that those games could be moved to co-host country Sri Lanka, depending on the situation.
