The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the Bangladesh Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs are trying to resolve the impasse between India and Bangladesh by hosting a bilateral series. On Tuesday, Bangladesh’s Minister of State for Youth and Sports Aminul Haq said the country wants to host a series against the Men in Blue in September.
BCB had earlier this year said that they would host a three-match ODI and T20I series against India during August–September 2026, which was canceled due to political tensions between the two countries; Earlier, it was also canceled during the 2025 season for the same reasons.
What happened between India and Bangladesh before T20 World Cup 2026?
There has been tension between the two neighboring countries in recent times, as BCCI barred Mustafizur Rahman from IPL 2026 despite him being selected by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) during the auction.
After that, BCB decided not to travel to India for the T20 World Cup citing security issues, after which they were also removed from the major tournament. Scotland replaced the Bangla Tigers in the tournament. Except Pakistan, no country supported Bangla Tigers to withdraw from T20 World Cup 2026.
BCB is ready to sell broadcasting rights of India’s matches
As soon as the BCB sold the broadcast and media rights for the India series earlier this month, there were some indications of the tour happening. The BCCI also did not accept the T20 series from Sri Lanka in August after two Test matches, which gave the impression that India’s tour would happen after all.
As per an earlier report by Cricbuzz, the BCB also ensured the safety of the cricketers and also assured that they will increase security as well. But doubts arose over the series when the BCB halted the media rights auction process despite calling for tenders for the series.

Aminul said the government is focusing strongly on sports diplomacy, with cricket playing an important role due to the country’s strong position in world cricket.
“The present government is giving utmost importance to sports diplomacy. And because cricket is a place of prestige for us, because cricket has a very strong position in our world cricket… We have already spoken to the Indian Embassy, they have also spoken to us and they are all looking forward to India coming to Bangladesh in September,” Aminul told reporters in Dhaka on Tuesday.
“After arriving, I think we will overcome the tension that was there (between the two countries) over a small incident in the past and hopefully our sports diplomacy, our communication, our movement, everything will continue with our neighboring country,” he said.
Earlier, the country’s Sports Ministry had formed a committee to investigate the reasons for withdrawing from the T20 World Cup. It was said that another committee had been formed to find out whether skipping the major tournament was a diplomatic failure or not, as there had been considerable controversy surrounding the tournament and the post.
