India’s tour of Bangladesh may finally be back on track. After months of uncertainty, the white-ball series between India and Bangladesh now looks likely to go ahead. It is being said that this series is likely to get the necessary approvals soon.

India’s tour of Bangladesh was reportedly the reason behind BCCI’s refusal to play a three-match T20 series during the Sri Lanka tour next month. There was talk of adding three T20 matches after the upcoming two-match Test series, but the BCCI rejected the proposal citing busy schedules and players’ workload management.

Bangladesh tour behind BCCI’s decision to reject Sri Lanka T20I!

BCCI recently announced the schedule of India’s tour of Sri Lanka. India will play two Tests, the first match will start on August 15 in Galle and the second in Colombo from August 23. Both games will be part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-26 cycle.

But they have not added any white-ball matches to the schedule. Earlier, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) wanted India to play three T20 matches followed by two Tests on the tour to raise funds to help the victims of Cyclone Ditvaah, and even the BCCI had given some consideration to it.

But later he decided to play only Tests in Sri Lanka. Now, a report from RevSportz suggests that BCCI wanted to keep its schedule free as the white-ball tour of Bangladesh is expected to take place in September this year. Last year, this tour was postponed due to India-Bangladesh tension.

Indian government’s approval remains the final hurdle for Bangladesh tour

But now Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has already included the India series in its domestic calendar. The proposed tour will consist of three ODIs and three T20 matches. The BCB has also started inviting bids for TV and digital broadcast rights, including for white-ball matches against India. Why is Bangladesh planning to tour India despite BCCI’s silence?

However, the Bangladesh tour is still awaiting final approval from the Indian government. Once it arrives, BCCI is expected to officially confirm the white-ball series in Bangladesh.

Earlier this year, relations between India and Bangladesh had become tense and cricket was also affected. Bangladesh did not travel to India for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, with Scotland replacing them in the tournament. But things have changed in recent months.

Cricket ties revived as India-Bangladesh ties improve

Relations between the two countries have improved under the leadership of Bangladesh’s new Prime Minister Tariq Rahman. India has also resumed issuing tourist visas to Bangladeshi citizens, showing that relations between the two countries are improving.

With former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal becoming the new BCB president, things started to improve between the two boards. Since taking charge, Tamim has championed stronger cricketing ties and a new direction for Bangladesh cricket.
