According to a PTI report, the Ajit Agarkar-led Indian selection committee is leaning towards picking the same 15 players for both the five-match T20 series against New Zealand and the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
With the tournament expected to begin on February 7, teams have only a few weeks to submit their squads, and the defending champions have practically no room to shuffle their options.

As per the rules, all participating teams will have to send their final 15-man lists a month before the start of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, and only a short window will be available to make changes. And then, India has a packed calendar; Therefore, the selectors do not want late surprises.
They will soon select the 15 players they want to represent the country in the prestigious tournament and will give that team enough time so that every role becomes clear and every player understands what the team expects from them.

Meanwhile, the Indian cricket team has only 10 T20 matches left before the tournament, so the selectors will not touch the selected players unless there are changes due to injury. Before the New Zealand series, they will also play five T20 matches against South Africa and this series will give the last chance to their tournament hopes.
It is being said that Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Suryakumar Yadav are considering the upcoming Proteas matches as the last opportunity to assess which players are fully prepared and which players are still in doubt.
