The atmosphere in the Indian national cricket team camp was looking good ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026 final against New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday (March 8). India qualified for the title match by defeating England by seven runs in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2026 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

The semi-final match was so tense that the finalists were decided in the last over at the Wankhede Stadium, but after the match the atmosphere in the Indian camp was completely different.

The joke came after Arshdeep struggled with his line during the semi-final and bowled several wides against England. Even though he conceded runs, the left-arm pacer made a crucial breakthrough by dismissing England batsman Will Jacks in crunch time.

Inside the team bus, Abhishek joked that Arshdeep might need two wicketkeepers because of the wide balls – one standing behind the stumps and the other close to the wide line. This comment caused a wave of laughter among the players.

Sanju Samson got into fun as soon as Arshdeep replied

Abhishek said, “Arshdeep needs 2 keepers. One here (straight), and one near the wide line. (Arshdeep needs two keepers. He needs one straight and one near the wide line.)”

However, Arshdeep also did not remain silent. The fast bowler also joined in the fun and pointed the camera towards wicketkeeper Sanju Samson while continuing the friendly banter.

The bowler replied to his partner and asked, “Sanju bhai, please put 2 keepers? You have two. Sanju bhai, should we go with two keepers? We also have two.)”

Meanwhile, Arshdeep is under the scanner in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026 due to his wide balls. Before England, he also bowled many wide balls in the Super 8 match against West Indies. Before this tournament, Arshdeep had also bowled an unusual over full of wides against South Africa.

Glenn McGrath blames poor preparation for Arshdeep Singh’s struggles

Reacting to Arshdeep’s struggles, great Australian bowler Glenn McGrath has blamed the Indian fast bowler’s lack of preparation behind the wides. McGrath has emphasized that a bowler can bowl wide yorkers more easily when it remains in his mind as a backup plan. If the bowler bowls it as a surprise option, the batsman gets no indication that the ball is going to be bowled wide.

The Indian Express quoted McGrath as saying, “It comes back to why we bowl really good length balls. Because in the nets, that’s the majority of what we bowl. So, we also need to practice bowling to those in the nets. And it comes down to confidence. If you’re confident in bowling the wide yorker, you’ll bowl and hit it more often. In T20s and ODIs, especially under pressure. In the death overs situation, you need a backup ball in your mind.”
