The selection committee of the Indian women’s national team has announced the full squad for the upcoming Test match against Australia. India will face Australia in a Test scheduled from 6 to 9 March 2026, which will be played at the WACA.

Without any surprises, the selection committee named Women’s World Cup-winning captain Harmanpreet Kaur as the team leader and Smriti Mandhana as the vice-leader. The inclusion of Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Richa Ghosh and Deepti Sharma will definitely boost their batting strength.

But it is important to remember that while the recent successes that the India women’s team have had have been in the limited overs formats, their upcoming assignment will be a Test match, where the ball game will be completely different. Instead of power-hitting skills, the format will test batsmen’s nerves and their best flexibility.

Apart from several obvious names, the selectors had to name one substitute due to injury issues. In a press release published on January 24, 2026, the board informed about the replacement of G Kamalini. “Meanwhile, wicketkeeper G Kamalini has been ruled out of India’s tour of Australia and the selectors have replaced her with Uma Chhetri in India’s T20I and ODI squads,” the board said.

The selection committee has also selected the India ‘A’ squad for the Rising Star Women’s Asia Cup to be played in Thailand in T20 format. Through this tournament, Indian cricket fans will get to know more about the emerging talents in women’s cricket.

The Women’s Premier League (WPL) is helping many young talents reach the highest levels of women’s cricket, playing for Team India. Players like Anushka Sharma, Nandini Sharma and Radha Yadav are already known for their cricketing talent.
